2. In this article I am going to be answering the question is meningitis contagious, as well
as providing some tips on avoiding it.
Just so we are on the same page meningitis is a condition in which someone’s protective
lining of their spinal cord or brain called meninges, become inflamed and damaged.
Inflammation takes place when the body tries to heal an injury, but also causes damage
in the process. It is the main cause of pain with arthritis, redness with a sunburn and
swelling with an injury.
This inflammation process is usually a result of a viral or bacterial infection. Since
viruses and bacteria can be contagious this also means that meningitis can be contagious.
Having said that there are other ways someone can get meningitis. For example a person
could get this ailment through an injury, cancer and even certain drugs and in that case
it’s not contagious.
When someone gets infected with a virus or bacteria the first thing the enemy wants to
do is reproduce. Viruses are not actually alive but just a tiny amount of dna with some
protection. Unlike a bacterium they can’t reproduce on their own and need to infect a
host cell.
One host cell can produce thousands of viruses and that is what can make them deadly.
Some examples of popular viruses would be the HIV virus, the flu virus and the rhino
virus, which causes the common cold.
Bacteria can eat and reproduce all by their own and thanks to antibiotics humans have an
easier time killing the bad guys than we did in the past. Some examples of harmful
bacteria could be e-coli, tuberculosis and salmonella.
If one of the viruses or bacteria gets into the lungs of a person then it’s more easily
spread. When someone sneezes or coughs water droplets of the invader can shoot in the
air and land on another person, and thus spread the disease.
Another way these harmful invaders can spread is through kissing another person and
possibly touching a contaminated surface, and then touching your face. This is why one
of the best things someone can do to help their immune system would be by washing
their hands a lot.
Also a person shouldn’t touch their face, since the face is a weak link in a person’s
security system. Next there are tons of herbal remedies and supplements that can make
your immune system as strong as Fort Knox in American. Some examples of these
herbs and supplements could be garlic, olive leaf extract, turmeric, black cumin seeds
