La arquitectura paleocristiana y bizantina son dos estilos arquitectónicos distintivos que se desarrollaron en la historia del arte y la arquitectura. La arquitectura paleocristiana se refiere al estilo arquitectónico que surgió en los primeros siglos del cristianismo, desde aproximadamente el siglo II hasta el siglo VI. Este estilo se caracteriza por el uso de elementos como columnas, arcos, bóvedas y cúpulas, a menudo incorporando influencias de la arquitectura romana. Las iglesias paleocristianas tempranas solían ser de planta basilical, con una disposición longitudinal y un énfasis en la simplicidad y la funcionalidad. Por otro lado, la arquitectura bizantina se desarrolló a partir del siglo VI en el Imperio Bizantino (el antiguo Imperio Romano de Oriente) y continuó hasta la caída de Constantinopla en 1453. Este estilo se caracteriza por el uso de cúpulas, arcos de medio punto, mosaicos elaborados, columnas esbeltas y una profusión de detalles ornamentales. Las iglesias bizantinas suelen tener una planta centralizada, con una cúpula central que domina el espacio interior. Ambos estilos arquitectónicos reflejan la evolución del arte y la cultura durante períodos históricos específicos y han dejado un legado duradero en la historia de la arquitectura occidental.
