2. Front cover research
An eye level
medium close up
has been used in
order to present a
typical school girl.
Costume such as a
school uniform
(shirt, tie and
blazer) further
indicate that this is
indeed a school
magazine.
The masthead consists of a white colour to indicate
the innocence of the contents of the school
magazine. However, the name of the magazine
does not indicate that this magazine is specifically
for a school as the title does not make a reference.
The use of this puff on
the magazine boosts its
status as it draws in the
audience to read the
results and justify why
they’re the best.

The use of this prominence is
useful as it automatically targets
the audience in order for them
to recognise and understand that
this magazine is aimed at them.
All of the use of
these cover
lines/plugs on
the cover of the
magazine allows
the audience to
be drawn into
the magazine as
there is more
than one
purpose to this
magazine, to
entertain and to
inform.
Bad Points:
- There are a wide range of colours that have been used on this magazine,
which can cause mixed messages to be sent out to the audience, such as
green has a colour connotation of envy whereas pink represents
femininity.
- The image of the girl is not a full image as half of her side is cropped off.
The uniform costume in which she’s wearing is not tidy, which may
portray a wrong message to the audience and deter potential readers.
- As it appears that there is more than one font used, even though this is
eye catching, it can become confusing and an eyesore to the audience.
3. Front cover research
The use of this
cover line is
extremely
effective as Ofsted
effect many
individuals of the
target audience,
therefore drawing
them in to reader
the magazine.
The use of this puff helps to boost
the status of this magazine due to
the ticks next to them, indicating
to the audience that this is an
appropriate and worthy magazine
to read.
The use of a bright gradient in order to
colour the masthead helps to make it
stand out against the plain white
background, therefore making it more
eye-catching to the audience, drawing
them to be interested into the magazine
and possibly purchase it.
The use of the girl wearing
a costume indicates that
she may be an inspector
due to the way she is
smartly dressed and also,
her props such as glasses
and clipboard further
indicate this to the
audience. Attracting them
to read the magazine as
they may be leaded to
believe that the magazine
have interviewed an
inspector.
Bad Points
- The image used is not a medium close up and is rather a medium shot. Also, the girls head is interrupting the
masthead.
- There is no evident background as majority of the background is what appears to be a whiteboard with a few
scribbles on it, with these few scribbles referring to only the one main article.
- The plugs are used are hardly noticeable as they’re at the very top of the magazine. Without the audience
noticing these plugs, it may give them the impression that the magazine is not full of information useful to them
and deter them from purchasing or reading it.

4. Contents Page Research
The use of only a very few colours keeps the contents page within a consistent eye catching colour scheme.
The use of the
many images on
the contents page
further indicate to
the audience that
this contents page
is specifically for a
school magazine
The yellow text
stands out against
the blue background
making it more clear
in order to draw the
audience to read
more into the
magazine.
Its very clear that
Photoshop or a different
application has been
used in order to edit this
image
Bad Points:
- Doesn’t look appealing
- There appears to be no apparent background such as a wall
- The numbers on the side don’t indicate what pages they
- They have used extremely basic colours and not attempted to add a gradient in order to make their magazine
look better.
- Some of the images look irrelevant

5. Contents Page Research
The black and white colour scheme looks very consistent, showing that the contents page has stuck within the black
and white colour scheme in order to try and appeal more to the audience.
The costume used
such as the shirt
indicates that the
model may be
wearing a school
uniform

The use of the gold and red colour
breaks the black and white colour
scheme, the purpose of this may
have been to promote the main
article to the audience in order to
ensure that they are drawn into it
and purchase the magazine
Bad Points:
- The pictures do not indicate that this contents page belongs to a magazine.
- There appears to be more than one font used for the text.
- The two images that are in colour ruins the black and white colour scheme, also along with the text, which may
cause the audience to believe that the editors of the magazine may have made a petty mistake, deterring them
from reading or purchasing the unprofessional looking magazine.
- The word ‘reviews’ appears to be hanging off the page in a very unprofessional way.
The exquisite
text used
helps to make
the magazine
stand out
more from the
other plain
looking
magazines.
