1. Misty’s Rehab
Phase 1 - the first three months
Dec 2014 - March 2015
Aims for phase 1:
•Increase weightbearing surface and
stability - give Misty “a foot to stand
on”
•Address deep-seated thrush infection
•Start physical therapy
2. Misty apparently spent three years in one spot in a field, unable to move
because of laminitis and the consequent deformation of her feet.
After her rescue, inches of excess hoof were removed, and she became
comfortable enough to be rehomed.
After 18 happy months in her new home where she went from hardly being
able to walk to getting around with her new friends, she started to become less
mobile.
In December 2014 The Laminitis Site was contacted and asked whether there
was any chance of Misty’s condition improving - if there wasn’t, she would
be put to sleep.
TLS had x-rays taken of Misty’s front feet. Whilst there was a huge amount
of damage and bone loss in her feet, and knock-on effects in the rest of her
body, there was also room for improvement.
TTouch practitioner Danielle was consulted, along with vets and hoof care
experts, and Misty’s rehabilitation began….
Background
20. Phase 2
Armed with new x-rays, we are
now aiming to improve the
realignment of her feet - but the
overriding aim is to maintain
and improve Misty’s comfort
21. Misty’s rehabilitation relies on donations from
our generous supporters
Trimming and physical therapy time is being
given free of charge
but funds are needed to pay for continuing x-rays,
blood tests, medication and treatments, hoof
boots, joint supplements and other rehabilitation
expenses.
