How it works ● Live streaming on your Instagram account in real time ● Content disappears when your live stream ends ○ Option to make the live streaming your Instagram Story for 24-hours after streaming ● Different than Instagram stories ● Streamer can react to comments in real time ● Viewers can interact with each other @djkhaled / Instagram

How it works ● Viewers can interact with each other ● Streamer can save the video, but without comments, likes or views ● Option for followers get a push notification when streamer goes live ● Users (Pew Research): ○ Age: 18-29 ○ Women more likely to use than men ○ From viewer experience, Live leans towards younger users

Has/can BuzzFeed (new) adopted? ● BuzzFeed has used Instagram Live ● Rely on Facebook Live more than this feature ○ Example: exploding watermelon by rubber band ○ 807,000k at one time were watching ● Potential for BuzzFeed to differentiate the type of live content between Facebook and Instagram ○ Facebook and Instagram appeal to different audiences ● Personalities, spaces and events for live streaming exist ● Would be great for BuzzFeed News

Has/can Conde Nast (legacy) adopted? ● Various CN magazines have used Instagram Live ○ Teen Vogue, Glamour, etc. ● CN can use Instagram Live by: ○ Posting live videos of events – Conde Nast Traveler Food Festival, Glamour ‘Women of the Year” Event ○ Life news coverage ○ Celebrity take overs – “day in the life of a celebrity” ● Beneficial to travel and fashion magazines, specifically ○ Live feed of a destination spot, fashion shows, behind the scenes

Can BuzzFeed leverage it? ● Buzzfeed can use Instagram Live by: ○ Showing live video for Tasty recipes ○ Collaborations with celebrities to answer quizzes and questions that have been published on Buzzfeed (to promote quizzes and engagement of followers) ○ Experiential content ○ News reporting ○ Open up to other genres of content in articles on Buzzfeed – for example, sports ○ Event promotion & behind the scenes event coverage ○ Day-in-the-life of BuzzFeed employees, between offices around the world

Will it change the way people think about Social Media? Criteria: 1) importance 2) scale 3) timing Insta Live Analysis: 1) Doesn’t entirely change how people interact, just add some more variations in the ways they do. 2) Instagram Live doesn’t affect other apps or majority of consumers who use social media 3) Instagram Live was launched in Nov. 2016. The Future ● Instagram attempted a dual instagram live feature ○ Tested in Aug. based on audience behavior ● Instagram Live Feed ○ Will move towards community, with a house-party-esque ability to live feed with your friends ○ Audiences will continue to get younger as technology is adopted earlier ○ A part of daily life ■ A potential creation of hermit culture: who needs to leave their room when you can experience from bed? ● Where to Lean ○ Serious: instant news reporting ○ Funny: live tinder dates? more exploding watermelons?
