  2. 2. Piet Mondrian began as an artist by painting realistic landscapes.
  3. 3. •Then Piet changed theway he painted.•He didn’t want hispictures to look likenature.•He wanted to explorehow color and lineworked together.
  4. 4. •Over time, Piet’swork became moresimple.•Piet did not usedetails and he onlyused a few colors.•Can you guesswhich colors heliked to use themost?

  6. 6. For 20 years Piet used onlyblack, white, gray and thethree primary colors.
  7. 7. Besides using just the primary colors, Piet liked to use: horizontal & vertical lines in his art.
  8. 8. Sometimes he would change the thickness of the lines. Other times hewould place the lines close together or far apart.
  9. 9. He was always trying to find aperfect balance in his art.
  10. 10. When Piet was 68 years old,he moved to New York City.The skyscrapers and the straightlines of the streets must havereminded him of his paintings!
