What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

  1. 1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
  2. 2. What is a institution? A institution is a company that disperses a media product for audience consumption. Where would institution disperse a film product? A film would go to cinemas either nationally or internationally. However after being at the cinema for a while it would then get dispersed shops to sell merchandise either DVD or soundtrack ect.
  3. 3. What else does a institution do? Before making the film, the directors or producers can go to a institution to pitch their idea for the film and could also ask if the institution would fund the project.
  4. 4. After looking in depth at ‘Last Resort’, ‘This is England’ and ‘Half Nelson’ I discovered what institutions distributed them. The Popular Institutions include: BBC The UK Film Council Vertigo Films Film Four.
  5. 5. As they were the most popular institutions I decided to research further about them. I did this to fins out if the would be suitable to go to ask if they would distribute my film.
  6. 6. The UK Film Council This institution has backed more than 900 films of which include feature and short films. There goal is make the UK a global centre for films amongst the worlds competitive film industry. They support many up coming film directors, by funding their British films to attract a wider audience. The money the film council has id provided by the lottery. They also are in partnership with BFI ( British Film Institution, Skill set, First light, Film Club and Regional and national screen agencies.
  7. 7. BBC Films BBC Films are the forefront in producing British independent films. They produce many feature films. They are committed in finding and developing new talent. However, they are picky about the films they back.
  8. 8. Vertigo Films Vertigo Films is a UK media company which creates and distribute commercially driven independent cinema. They use new technology and they pay attention to the budgets, this is to address their audience in the most care to produce films that the audience approves off; that they are authentic to what is trying to be represented.
  9. 9. Film 4 Film 4 showcases a wide-rang of British made films and international films that come from all over the world. They don’t just show films they also produce many films. Some of their awarding winning films include ‘This is England’ by Shane Meadows. Film 4 is partnered with Warp X Films where they challenge British and International films a creating new ones for a lower budget, with the intention of expanding the niche audience.
  10. 10. For my film I would consider approaching all of these institutions, so that my budget issues would be covered. These institutions are well known throughout the UK, I would hope that my film would attract the interest of many UK film audience members and help to widen the Niche audience group of a social realism film.
