1. DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS
You can use Microsoft Excel to obtain descriptive statistics on quantitative data.
Make sure that you have the Data Analysis TookPak loaded on your computer. If not, go to the document, How to Load
Excel AnalysisPak on Your Computer on the Course Website (on Excel Instructions Page).
1. Step One
Download and open the Car Sales Excel file located on the course website on the Data File page.
2. From the tool bar select the Data tab and then Data Analysis.
Select Descriptive Statistics and then click OK.

2. Click on the input range and highlight cells B1 through B181 (profits). Make sure that the Grouped by Columns
button is clicked and the boxes next to Labels in first row and Summary statistics are also clicked.
Click on the Output Range box and click on cell F2 in the spreadsheet and click OK.

3. Your descriptive statistics for Profits will appear. From the results of the analysis, we can see that the average
profit from car sales is $1843. 17.
