  28. 28. The Stittsville RAMS Peewees are geared up for a season full of great coaching, team bonding, and creating skillsetsthat will carry them into years to come. Youth hockey is an experience for all the players, each and every year , to gainskills in not only the dynamics of the game of hockey, but inTeam building, Leadership , Responsibility andCommitment. Coming from all areas of Stittsville and it’s various schools, some of these boys met for the first time onice. Yet they already show lots of promise in Exhibition games. In the opening game against the Kanata Blazers theystarted looking like they were a group of players who had barely played with each other. Then it started to cometogether and replied with 3 unanswered goals, resulting in a come from behind 3-2 win over Kanata.Revving up for the season...The team comes togetherIn the second Exhibition game, the team hittheir stride, as they blanked home team ourrivalCrusaders. The Defence helped keepup the pressure by frequently cutting offthe Crusaders attempts to clear the puckfrom their zone, and then shooting on goal.Play went end to end throughout thisvery exciting game. The exhibition gamewith theCrusaders indicate aforthcoming season of close rivalry. Frombreakout to scoring, the passing made abig contribution to the team win. Timeand time again an attack was sprung fromdefence to offence. It looks like an exciting and fun seasonahead. We’re looking forward to it.Go RAMS Go!
  29. 29. Stittsville RAMS took the Challenge and Ran with ItBefore the boys even got their blades dull in regular season, they would be off toToronto to play at the Canlan Ice Sports Arena at York University for their first AwayTournament of the year. The coaching staff and parents alike saw the players meldtogether as the team to be reckoned with and rise victorious to win Silver againstsome truly tough, hard hitting opponents. Our record of 1 tie, 2 losses, and 1 winbrought us all the way to some Semi Final action where they took down theundefeated Cooksville Phantoms in a 2-1 intense overtime win for the RAMS. Thiswas undoubtedly the highlight of the tournament for our boys and brought them tothe Final Game. The Whitby Wildcats ended our chant by taking the gold from within our reach butthis was not to dismay our positive and enthusiastic players. We walked away withthe knowledge that this team; this years’ RAMS, made that "Finals" game appearanceon their own merit, with perseverance and great forward and defensive action. Butafter 4 days of intense hockey it was not to be for our boys, however, we would still gohome proud.Coach Yakabuski stated after this stellar performance that this was a “Great start tothe 2012/13 season for the RAMS. We started to build our team image around hardwork, physical play and being a puck control team. We want to be the team thatothers ‘don’t like to play against’ as we overheard two opponent teams this weekendstate "We hope we don’t play Stittsville in the finals". Lots of opportunity forimprovement and a LONG WAY to reaching the potential of what this team canaccomplish this year. But VERY optimistic, given the kids have come together as ateam in a very short time. I EXPECT BIG THINGS and am confident that the kids havewhat it takes to meet and exceed those expectations. Making mistakes is the path togrowth and success. Our coaching staff is looking FWD to seeing LOTS of MISTAKESand subsequently lots of growth. ”We look forward to commencing regular season play back on home ice and a year ofundaunting challenges.Go RAMS Go!Congratulations go out to our Major Peewee B team who represented Ottawa thispast Thanksgiving weekend at the Toronto Avalanche Thanksgiving Challenge.

  31. 31. Fresh back off the road, the team opened the season with an end to end, fast paced game which resulted in a 2 all tiewith the Mississippi Thunder Kings. Early in the first period there was lots of pressure on our goalie and MTK got thefirst goal. The RAMS gradually turned the tide, with the defence keeping the puck in the offensive zone and takinglots of shots from the blue line. The forwards back checked ferociously. This concerted team effort paid off with ourfirst goal, so that by the end of the first period the score was one all.Season Opener - An End to End GameIn the second period our team did somegreat passing, but a scramble in front ofour goal gave MTK their second goal. TheRAMS soon replied with a hard shot whichrebounded off the pads of their goalie andwas then neatly put away in the back oftheir net. At the end of the second periodthe score was 2 all.MTK tried to put pressure on our goalie, sometimes even after the whistle, but ourgoalie still courageously kept focused onthe puck, holding onto any possiblerebounds.2-2 was the final score, which did not dofull justice to RAMS great team play, goodshooting from both offence and defence, and goaltending which just gets better andbetter.

  33. 33. The last game of the tournament for us was to be played againstthe Markam Waxers. Again, the boys brought full momentumback to the game when they owned the ice and the entire game, winning 4-1.The tournament came to a quick end, with only 3 games played, however, the whole team worked hard and carried out some greatplays. We’re looking forward to some fun games aheadthroughout the rest of the season. The 8th annual Capital Mid-Season Showdownbrought an amazing 73 teams together in this city.Teams came from throughout Ontario, Quebec and asfar away as the Greater Sudbury area to showcasehockey that was fast-paced, filled with intensity and atrue joy to watch. This incredible weekend gave theRAMS just 3 games but not to deter them fromenjoying their time together as a team and pushingthemselves into the season as a great group of kidswho strove to improve and keep on loving the game ofhockey. The Friday night start for the RAMS saw them meetthe HamiltonTigers at KRC , resulting in a 5-2loss. Despite this first lost, they came back strong thenext morning to meet the Orangeville Flyers and tovery effectively take time off the clock by keeping thepuck in the offensive zone as much aspossible. Accurate passes, and some speedy carryingof the puck up the ice helped increase the pressure onthe Flyers. This game would end in a 2-2 tie and wouldleave all of us watching the other teams to see ourchances of staying in and staying strong.8th Annual Capital Mid-Season ShowdownTournament presented by the Stittsville RamsNovember 23 – 25 , 2012

  37. 37. The Stittsville RAMS Major Peewee Rep B team survived the regular season with all teeth intack. They came into the first round of playoffs fresh out of a great year of a higher level oflearning for them. In their first game , supporters crowded into the Bells Sensplex arena tocheer for both teams for some playoff excitement.PlayoffsThe second playoff game found us facing the Leitrim Hawks, whichwould prove to be a fast end to end affair. The RAMS, facingelimination, came out strong in this game. Both teams checkedfuriously and effectively. The RAMS’s ability to frequently move thepuck into the offensive zone brought lots of scrambles in front of theiropponents net.And good breakouts kept the game moving back intotheir own zone. However, it was not to be that day on Leitrim home ice. With 36 seconds to go on the clock, the opponents managed to squeakjust one more out for a win. A truly hard fought battle that our boysneed to be very proud of and not to be disheartened. The last and final game of the playoffs for our boys brought with it a realization that this team would not godown without a battle. We nipped at the heals of the Ice Dogs from Casselman but eventually succumbed tothem in a 5-1 loss. We went out with a bang, the details of which we have no need to describe for it wasdisplayed in our hearts and in our passion for this game.We Sang another song when all was said and doneand we will continue to sing that song in our friendships, in our honor and in our tomorrows. We will foreversing…Go RAMS Go!!!It would prove to be a phenomenal game for them. The RAMS came out very strongand goal after goal proved that a well fought battle does have its’ merits.Throughout the game their opponents,TheTriCity Griffins, kept up the offensivebarrage and found themselves into the third period not being able to make ithappen. Our Defence and Forwards all worked together well to ensure a 7-0 win.Late in the third, theGriffins still were game to retaliate with very defensive playwhich showed us that they were a team to not back down and they faced defeat veryhonorably. This win would put our boys in a very good position going into our battle.
