4. “The emergence of adaptive
governance arrangements for
tropical forest ecosystems”

In July and August 2012:
◦ Carl Salk from Univ. of Colorado, Glen Wright
from Univ. of Alaska and Joana Stefanska from
the Intern. Inst. For Applied Systems Analysis,
Austria pretested the instruments and
methodology to be used on the above project
using the IFRI trainees and two communities
adjacent to one IFRI site
◦ One IFRI site was revisited by the IFRI trainees

◦ Carl Salk from Inst. Of Behavioral Science Univ.
of Colorado, Joana Stefanska and Maria Claudia
Lopez from Michigan State Univ. conducted two
weeks training in PES experimental games

governance” cont.
◦ UFRIC team together with Carl Salk, revisited 4
IFRI sites and collected PES data from 8 groups
of people adjacent to the IFRI sites
◦ Prof. Robin Chazdon from Univ. of Connecticut
participated in one site
◦ Full IFRI forms used
◦ Similar work on16 sites is continuing up to
March 2014
◦ New shortened version of IFRI forms being
used

7. “Adaptation of People to Climate
Change in East Africa”

Revisited I IFRI Site in Mt. Elgon
Conducted hh survey using PEN
Instruments- repeated every four
months
Similar study on the Kenyan side by
IFRI-Kenya
stakeholder workshops held in Nairobi,
Kampala and Kitale.

8. Gender, tenure and community forests
in Uganda:
Project funded by ADA and CIFOR
• Used IFRI sites located in 3 districts
• To Study factors affecting women
participation in Forest Management.
• IFRI data used to understand role of
gender in forest management
