2. AMO: Achievement
• The AMOs for achievement are determined by a building's API (Assessment
Performance Index) score and its percentage of students below standard.
Both conditions must be met in order to make a building category. If a
building exceeds its below standard limit, it's moved to the next lower
level.* Each building category has a specified rate of improvement, or
number of API points, that produce the building AMO.
4. AMO: Growth
• To achieve the growth AMO a school must have a median student growth
score that meets or exceeds those of half the schools in Kansas.Your
building's 2013 Median score for reading and math will be compared to the
2013 range of median scores for all buildings to determine AMO status.
5.
6. AMO: Reduction of Non-Proficient
• The goal of this AMO is to reduce the percentage of non-proficient students
(RNP) in half by the 2017-2018 school year. The RNP calculation is applied at
the district, building, and subgroup level to create a unique RNP AMO for
each.
• Please Note: Subgroups with an n size of > 30 will have an AMO
determination.
8. AMO: Gap Reduction
• The goal of the reducing the Gap AMO is to reduce each building's
achievement gap in half by the 2017-2018 school year. Progress towards this
goal is made in equal, annual increments (i.e. AMO's). A building may also
achieve its Gap Reduction AMO by demonstrating an API score of 500 or
greater for its lowest performing 30% (LP30) of students
9. Gap Reduction
9
At least 30 students in this category
to make a subgroup
The 30 student subgroup would be
performing in the range of the lowest
30% of students in the entire state
10. AMO: Participation Rate
• The AMO for participation rate is 95%.The AMO is calculated for the "All
Students" and for subgroups with at least 30 students. The AMO of 95%
applies to both reading and math. The AMO can be achieved by meeting the
participation rate in the current year.
• The AMO can also be achieved by a 2 year or 3 year participation rate
average that is equal to or greater than 95%.
11. AMO: Graduation Rate
• The overall AMO for graduation is 80%. GraduationAMO can also be met by
achieving a 3% improvement if the prior year rate was greater than or equal
to 50% but less than 80%, or by achieving a 5% improvement if the prior
year rate was less than 50%.
• The AMO can be met by the 4 year or 5 year rate calculation
12. What’s Now?
• Transitional Assessment – 2013-14 (Not comparable to 2013 or before/Not
comparable to 2015 and after
• Transitional Assessment will NOT be used to calculate a baseline!
13. What’s Next?
• 2014-15 = 1st year of accountability under the KCCRS
• New test in 2014-15WILL constitute a baseline
• Test is being developed at KU’s Center for EducationalTesting and
Evaluation (CETE)
• Kansas is no longer part of the Smarter-Balanced Consortium (State BOE
vote in December)

Editor's Notes
In this example of an API calculation, you can see how credit is given in increasing amounts as students are moved from one performance level to the next. In the previous system, schools were only given credit for getting students above the red line. There was no credit given based on how far above the red line they moved students, and no credit for upward movement that occurred below the red line.
