AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVES ON STRESS
Wednesday, 14th March, 2012, @Rotary Midtown's
weekly meeting @RCL Hall, the speech and powerpoint
presentation on “Coming to Grips with Stress” was so
good, relaxing and light, yet throwing light on various
dimensions of stress management. An excited Rotarian
Rakesh introduced the speaker, a family friend, to the
audience as an Ayurveda Doctor who runs Ayurveda
Therapy Clinic since two decades. The speaker so
beautiful and poised, truly neighbours envy and owners
pride - Dr.Poornima Krishnamurthy, began from how
she tried to bring in positivity to the title and went on to
say that stress has been there even 50 years ago, but
these days the stress levels & frequencies have
increased, leading to various chronic health
disorders.
As an example, she explained as to how digestive disorders are due to stress. She drew
the diagram of a stomach and showed in it how brain sends message to the stomach to
produce Hydrochloric Acid as soon as it is time to eat food. But in a stressed person it sends
messages randomly and thus the acid gets produced in the stomach without the food;
which harms the inner walls of the stomach, causing irritation, pain - Peptic Ulcers!
She gave a list of 50 stress coping strategies:
1. Meditation, 2. Art of Living, 3. Massage, 4. Breathing Exercise, 5. Being Positive,
6. Spa visits, 7. Organised Living, 8. Forgive easily, 9. Scream, go for punch bags,
10.Energy Channelising, 11.Past life regressive, 12.Crystal Therapy, 13.Hypnosis,

Two years later, the Foundation made its first grant
of $500 to the International Society for Crippled
Children. The organization, created by Rotarian Edgar

The Great Depression and World War II both

International, and the Paul Harris Memorial Fund was
created to build the Foundation.
That year, the first Foundation program – the
forerunner of Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial

programs were launched: Group Study Exchange ,
Awards for Technical Training, and Grants for Activities
in Keeping with the Objective of The Rotary Foundation,
which was later called Matching Grants .
The Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) Grants
program was launched in 1978, and Rotary
