  • 3. Installing Components
    • Before Installation, create a directory called “Android”
      • Create Sub-directories – Downloads, Workspaces, Samples
    • JDK (JDK 7)
      • Java Run Time Environment
      • Download from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
      • Download the 32bit or 64 bit based on your machine’s OS to C:AndroidDownloads and Install the EXE
  • 4. Installing Components
    • Eclipse Classic 3.7
      • Integrated Development Environment
      • Download from http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-classic-37/indigor
      • Download the 32bit or 64 bit based on your machine’s OS to C:AndroidDownloads
      • (NOTE : Eclipse Environment doesn’t have an EXE )
  • 5. Installing Components
    • Android SDK
      • Software Development Kit for building Android Applications
      • Make sure JDK is installed before installing Android SDK
      • Download from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
      • Download the EXE (installer_r12-windows.exe) and install the EXE
      • Install all the sub modules or pick any particular versions if particular
        • Eg : Android 2.2
  • 6. Installing Components
    • ADT Plugin for Eclipse
      • A Plugin for Eclipse IDE that is designed to you a powerful environment to build Android Apps
      • http://developer.android.com/sdk/eclipse-adt.html#installing
      • Open “Eclipse” and create a “Workspace”
      • Download the plugin inside “Eclipse” -> “Help” -> “Install New Software”
        • You may encounter Firewall issues
        • If you encounter Network problems – do a local install and then add it to the repository
  • 7. Sample project
    • http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/hello-world.html
    • Open Eclipse (if Win7 – Make sure you are an Administrator)
    • Either use the same “ WorkSpace ” or create a new one
    • Go to “File” -> “New” -> “Android Project” Build the Project that you just created
    • Run the Project on the Emulator
      • NOTE : Emulator might be slow – be patient
  • 8. Conclusion
    • Installed all the necessary components to kick start Android Development
    • Ran a sample “Hello World” Program
    • Next Steps – try to add more to the sample program
    • Future – Play with the sample “Snake” Program
