Csp case study delivering sport makers to your own workplace
1. CSP Case Study
Delivering Sport Makers to your own
workplace
West Yorkshire Sport delivered a Sport Makers
event to employees of West Yorkshire Joint
Services, a group of organisations which they
are part of. The event resulted in 21 new Sport
Makers and worked as a pilot to deliver Sport
Makers to similar organisations. Read on to find
out how they did it…

• West Yorkshire Sport first met with a member of their
buildings committee to agree that the caretaker would keep
the building open after hours for the event to take place.
• They then met with management and got agreement that
they could run the event for staff.
• The organisation was already planning a mini-Olympics
event, so their marketing of the Sport Makers event tied into
this and the forthcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games.

• Marketing and recruitment was carried out in three ways:
• A Sport Makers flyer was circulated by management to all 200 staff.
• The CSP, with agreement from management, displayed Sport Maker
flyers and posters in each department.
• The CSP also had face-to-face follow-up meetings with each
department to give them more information about the programme and
possible deployment opportunities.
• Employees signed up to the workshop in three ways:
• On paper by the CSP while carrying out departmental visits.
• Online at www.sportmakers.co.uk.
• On the day through paper registrations.
• The event was held in an on-site conference room after work.

• Using a free, on-site venue for the event – they were able to
invite a Sport Makers ambassador to the event using the money
saved because of this.
• Knowing what you can offer an organisation before meeting
them – the CSP used staff benefits such as improved health,
better team working, skill development and a greater sense of
community spirit within the organisation as a way to secure buy-in
to Sport Makers from management.

• Engaging with sporty individuals from the management team – this
makes it is easier to sell the programme.
• Using Ping! table tennis sets – this engaged people during registration
at the beginning of the event.
• Providing clear deployment opportunities - the mini-Olympics worked
well as it was on-site and took place a short time after the event.

• 21 members of staff attended the event.
• 13 have logged hours with 11 having logged 10 hours.
• The CSP subsequently went on to deliver Sport Makers to other
similar organisations such as Wakefield District Housing and
Wakefield Council.
• The mini-Olympics engaged approximately 50 people, the
success of which was down to Sport Makers encouraging their
office to attend
