2. WHY DID I CHOOSE
THIS FOOD?
Since that a lot of people
around the globe eat
chocolate cornflakes for
breakfast, I wanted to see how
healthy this actually was.
4. TESTING PROCEDURES:
STARCH TEST
Grind up the food
Put the ground up food in a test tube half
filled with water
Put ten drops of iodine solution in
Wait for the iodine solution to soak in the
food
If the food turns black, that means that the
food contains starch
If the food remains the same, that means the
food contains no or very little starch
5. TESTING PROCEDURES:
GLUCOSE TEST
Grind up the food and put the food in a test
tube half filled with water
Next put in ten drops of Benedicts Solution
in the test tube containing the food
Than let the test tube heat up in a water
bath
If the food contains sugar/glucose it will turn
green, yellow, red, or purple, depending on its
sugar concentration
6. TESTING PROCEDURES:
PROTEIN TEST
Grind up the food and put it in a test tube
half filled with water.
Add ten drops of Biuret A and Biuret B each
Than let the test tube heat up in a water
bath
If the food turns light purple that means that
protein is present in that food
7. TESTING PROCEDURES:
PROTEIN TEST
Grind up the food and smear it on to a
piece of filter paper
If the filter paper becomes translucent, that
means that the food contains fat
9. THE MOUTH
In the mouth the corn flakes are
ground up by the teeth.
Than the amylase (enzyme) in the saliva
breaks down the starch
Saliva helps the ground up corn flakes
slip through the esophagus
10. THE STOMACH
The stomachs digestive juices are mixed
with the corn flakes
The digestive juices begin to break
down the protein particles in the corn
flakes
Then the stomach releases hydrochloric
acids which kill or inhibit bacteria
11. SMALL INTESTINE
1. THE DUODENUM
The purpose of the duodenum is to
break down the food
Enzymes in the duodenum complete
breaking down the protein particles into
amino acids
Amino acids make up proteins
Pancreatic amylase breaks down some
carbohydrates (including starch) into
oligosaccharides
12. SMALL INTESTINE
2. THE ILEUM
The purpose of the ileum is to absorb
the food
The ileum absorbs the food by using
tiny finger-like villi on its surface
The villi possess even smaller finger like
microvilli therefore increasing surface area
All the food has been broken down
before so that the food would be small
enough to be absorbed by the villi
This is where the foods nutrients are
absorbed into the blood stream
The jejunum is another part in the small
intestine that is very similar to the ileum
but there are minor differences like the
ileum has more fat,etc
13. LARGE INTESTINE
This where the corn flakes that didn’t
get absorbed in the small intestine goes
In the large intestine the water in the
food is absorbed
The water is absorbed into the
bloodstream
It than gets mixed with mucus and
bacteria, otherwise known as gut flora, and
turns into feces
14. RECTUM/END OF
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
The rectum is where the feces/corn
flakes is temporarily stored in the last stage
of digestion
Than the feces is released through the
anus
15. CONCLUSION
Eating corn flakes gives you carbohydrates
The body uses these carbohydrates as the
main source of energy
So eating corn flakes is healthy, but I think
that the healthiest choice is corn flakes without
sugar and flavoring
