 Understand the concepts of the project management and general business
environments that typical projects operate
 Understand a general project life cycle and its phases
 Understand the project management processes and outputs as they apply
to a generic project life cycle.
 Understand the roles of the project manager, project stakeholders and
project team and the skills required to manage a generic project.
 Understand how the project management processes are properly
coordinated and the trade-offs among competing objectives and

Project Management:
• Project management is a methodological approach to achieving agreed
upon results within a specified time frame with defined resources.
• It involves applying knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to a wide
range of activities in order to meet the requirements of a project.
• The major objectives of project management include performance,
cost, and time goals.
• The focus is to meet customer expectations, deliver projects within
budget, and complete projects on time.
• Project management is helpful in achieving these objectives by
organizing, planning, monitoring, controlling, and correcting the
project activities.
• These activities consist of creating a workable project environment, and
keeping the work environment healthy.

• Understand and explain the processes/tools for purchasing or acquiring the products, services, or
results needed from outside the project team to perform the project work

• Notes as a minimum will include the concepts discuss in the text book.
• Additional notes will be provided that cover topics not included in the
course text books.
• Reading Materials/Case Studies/Assignments
• The course text book will be used as the main source.
• Additional reading materials will be identified from the three reference text
books.
• Important to study the lecture notes.
• Assignments/Quizzes/Tests/Final Exam

Suggestions for Passing the Course

1. Read the lecture notes and reference material. Complete the home assignments on your own.
2. Answer the test/exam questions form what you learned in the course, NOT the perspective you
have acquired from your life experience.
3. READ all the FOUR multiple choice answers. It is better to read them in reverse (D to A) to force
yourself to read all the answers.
4. There will be more than one CORRECT answer to each question, but only one BEST answer.
Practice looking for the best answer.
5. Make sure you have clearly read the question and understand it. In the questions, look for words
like “ First, Last, Next, Best, Never, Always, Except, NOT, Most Likely, Primary, Initial , Most”
6. Brain Dump: As soon as you are given paper at the test/exam, write down all the FORMULAS.
You must memorize a limited amount of simple formulas.

6. If you are unsure of the answer, mark and return to it later. Do not attempt to answer the first time.
7. Often, lengthy questions have a few lines explaining a situation that is not related to the actual
question, or any of the other possible answers.
8. Use all the time – go back and check the answers. Do not leave the test/exam early!
