Assignment 3: Presenting With PowerPoint Jane R. Doe 9/3/17 CIS105 Intro to Information Systems 1 Hello, my name is Jane Doe and today I will be presenting my Assignment 3: Presenting with PowerPoint presentation, all about everything I learned in CIS105 Intro to Information Systems in my first term here at Strayer University. 1 Information Systems Terms and Concepts Digital Literacy Knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed for the effective use of digital devices and effective participation in an information-based society Hardware The physical components of a computer that you can touch Software The coded instructions that tell the computer’s hardware what to do 2 We started the course by learning some basic information systems terms and concepts. This was important to get us started learning all about the world of computers. I work in the security field so I didn’t have very much experience with computers at all coming into this course, other than knowing how to download an app on my phone. One thing I learned about was digital literacy—this means the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed for the effective use of digital devices and effective participation in an information-based society. Being digitally literate is an essential skill for being an online student, working in today’s information-based job market, and just being a citizen of the modern world and being able to do what you need to do as far as taking care of your family, paying your bills, ordering things online, and everyday actions like that. I also learned the difference between your computer’s hardware and software. The hardware is the physical parts of a computer that you can see and touch, like the keyboard, the monitor, the tower, the mouse, the webcam. The software is the programs that run it – the coded instructions that tell the computer’s hardware what to do. The Microsoft Office Suite that we learn later in the class is an example of computer software. 2 Internet Internet Service Provider (ISP) A company that provides Internet access for a fee Protocol Standard set of rules, requirements, and criteria for all devices and networks to follow Search Engine Software system that relies on algorithms to process data and search for content on the Web 3 NOTE: In this sample only the first two (2) slides contain sample audio, remember to add audio to each slide. Next in Weeks 2 and 3 we learned all about the Internet—what it is, what it does, and how to best use it most effectively and efficiently for your needs. One of the main things I learned here was that an Internet Service Provider, or ISP, is a company that provides Internet access for a fee. Service Electric and Verizon in my home area of Pennsylvania are our main providers. I learned that protocol refers to the standard set of rules, requirements, and criteria that all devices (computers, iPads, phones, etc.) and networks follow. This allows the devices and networks t ...

Solution sPro here is Part I and II of the Comp102 week 1 assignments. Thank you. Part I Week1 DB response: The focus of this week’s discussion question is how you store files on your computer and how you can find them easily. For your discussion with your classmates, think of ways that you store files on your computer now. Do you have problems finding files on your computer? If so, what is a good way to organize your files? Start this assignment by using the Internet or your reading, and come up with ways to store files on your computer so that you can find them quickly. After your research is completed, discuss with your classmates the following: What is the method that you use to store files on your computer for your classes? After reading how other classmates are organizing their files, comment on their posts. If you see a file management system you like, mention how you would use it yourself. You may see ways to make your current file management system better. If so, discuss how that can be done. Do not be afraid to ask questions and to discuss your thoughts on the topic. In your own words, please post a response to the Discussion Board and comment on other postings. You will be graded on the quality of your postings. Week1 DB response to classmate: David Hollingsworth File Organization Organization is one of my personal strengths and this has translated to digital filing as much as anything else. As most of the digital files that I manage are in my work environment, I want to focus this post on my work files. In the past, I have replaced several managers who did not organize files well and over the years, I have seen three dominant ways of filing: everything visible, single folder levels, and multiple folder levels. First, and least effective, is no filing at all. I once met with a coworker to go over some documents and she had her entire dual-monitor desktop covered with documents. Her philosophy was that as long as she could see the document she could find it. However, in our meeting, with approximately 200 documents in her face, she had a lot of difficulty finding anything. Second, and only slightly better, is to categorize major types of information. Being in the security business, this has been the most common method I have seen in my peers. This is done by simply putting like items in the same folder. For example, incident reports go in an “Incident Report” folder and facility logs go in a “Facility Log” folder. This works okay, but can still be cumbersome when you have more complex items. The method I utilize is to incorporate folders, and sub folders to as many levels as are necessary to have only a small number of files in the last folder. This means that for my schedules, for example, I have a folder labeled “Schedules”, then a folder for each year “2014”, then a folder for each month “March”, and then the schedule documents so that there are only 4-5 documents in the final level of organization. This saves time in not hav.

ITC 3001, Personal Computer Fundamentals 1 Course Learning Outcomes for Unit I Upon completion of this unit, students should be able to: 1. Explain the fundamentals of computer hardware and computer software. 1.1 Explain the basics of using Windows 8. 1.2 Compare Microsoft Windows to Mac OS. Reading Assignment Part I, Lesson 1: Getting Started with Windows 8 Part I, Lesson 2: Navigating and Customizing the Start Screen Unit Lesson Computer literacy is an absolute requirement now. You probably use, or will use, your computer at work, at home, and to help your children learn. This unit is designed to help you feel more comfortable with Windows, the operating system (OS) used to interact with most personal computers. We will begin with a review of the basics. A computer is an electronic device that accepts data or input, manipulates the data based on a user’s instructions, and subsequently produces information or output. Software provides instructions to your computer. Systems software, or the operating system, manages your system and determines which types of applications you can run. It is the layer of software packages running on your machine between your computer and hardware devices and your application software. Application software includes the programs that you use to complete specific tasks. Examples of application software include word processors, spreadsheet programs, database management systems, compression software, accounting packages, photo editors, and more. In this unit, you will be studying the Microsoft Windows operating system. In future units, you will cover applications that comprise the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. As you probably already know, Windows is an operating system from Microsoft that coordinates the activities of your computer. The one that we will cover in this unit is Windows 8. It controls how the screen is displayed, how programs are opened and closed, startup and shutdown procedures, and general computer navigation. Using the applications in the Office suite requires a general knowledge of Windows. Much of the work that you do on a computer involves creating, modifying, and saving files. Windows allows you to manage these files. Both of the lessons in the reading assignment for this unit provide hands-on instructions and practice in the use of Windows 8. It is highly recommended that you walk through the activities on your own computer as you read the textbook. Windows allows you to work with documents and applications and organize how you interact with your computer. The Windows desktop is the screen that you see when you turn on your computer and log into Windows. It is similar to a real-physical desktop, hence the name. Windows provides the mechanisms for you to customize the desktop, allowing you easy access to the programs and files you use the most. Since the desktop can be customized, keep i ...
