23. Enlightenment – 1st Watch आत्मनो मोक्षार्थं जगद हिताय च Buddha meditated on his past lives and saw the sufferings, tensions and trauma he went through in several life times. These past lives are recorded in Jataka Tales. This lead Buddha to expand his individual identity to include past lives also. It helps to transcend series of identitites called Jivanamala - thread of lives.

Enlightnemnt – 2nd Watch आत्मनो मोक्षार्थं जगद हिताय च Exploration of Group ConsciousnessDuring second watch of the day of enlightenment, Buddha meditated on interdependance of all life forms and commonality of suffering and awareness of all life forms. Right from amoeba, to water based life forms, amphibians, animals, birds and human beings share a commonality of fear, trauma, desire and awareness. This meditation helps one to develop a deep compassion and empathy for all lifeforms. Also, this helps to realize commonality of pure awareness as common groudnd for all specieis and which forms the basis for enlightenment.

25. Enlightenment – 3rd Watch आत्मनो मोक्षार्थं जगद हिताय च Third Watch - Exploration of absolute ConsciousnessAll beings in the Universe are interconnected through web of Karma. Lower level beings, lower level species have lesser light and higher level beings have higher light. This is more like a collection of diamonds. Each diamond reflects the light from other diamonds. In this meditation Buddha accepts the interconnectedness of all living beings through Karma. All beings appear as though a an ocean of rgragmented consciousness .The more of the universe that is accepted, the greater grows the love and awareness of the bodhisattva. In the upward path to Buddhahood, all are taken on the journey. One cannot travel this road alone- this is a universal form of meditation. The person should contemplate all possible communities and life forms, starfish, coral, heron, squirrel, human - and take them into the universe as companions.

The first three quarters of the night are exploration, learning the limits of the ego, species identity, and of consciousness itself. We might also call these states of self-consciousness, group-consciousness, and absolute consciousness. The fourth watch is going beyond self consciousness, group consciousness and absolute consciousness. It is integration of all the states. It is simultaneously being aware of the phenomena and emptiness of phenomena
