My Essential Question
An essential question I chose: why is art necessary to our society? For the first time I
chose this essential question, I honestly couldn’t figured out why art is important to another, so I
expressed my experience about my project. With many help from my mom, other artists from art
school, my mentor, Mr. Armstrong, and to my friends, they all gave me ideas and expression
toward art. This made me realized that they all inspired me to have devotion toward art.
I believe that art is really important to any society. Art shows us what people are thinking
or feeling is important. It’s overwhelming and entertaining way to get someone else’s perception
on something you’re really good at. I feel that everyone as humans needs to get into art because
it’s so real and has emotion and values. A piece of art can influence so many people and express
our vision in so many diverse, unique ways. No matter what part of the world you are in, art has
always a way of making us feel good.
I’m known to be a quiet person who is a quite a perfectionist. Before, most of my friends
said that I need to be a bit more relaxing and flexible. I always drew everything in a rigid way.
As people were giving me tips, I began to draw more along with a flow. Thanks to my mom who
helps me understand everything about art. Interviewing with mom was an inspiring thing to do in
my lives. As I started to ask her a question, “Why is art so important to our society?” Without

hesitation, she gently said, “Art is like a communication by drawing. Can you imagine without
pictures and music? That would be pretty sad and lonely, don’t you agree? I believe that art can
connect us in a way that nothing else can. As an art teacher, I sometimes get offended when
people are disrespectful toward art because they think they aren’t good. But, as for now, my
students have enhanced a lot because it stimulates their thinking and communication skills. Also,
they’ve raised their problem solving and educational skills. Art gives many people a feeling of
confidence at creating their own piece of work. Like you, Michelle, when you were young, even
though you loved art, you said you couldn’t do it anymore because your artwork wasn’t perfect.
But, when I taught you a bit by bit, you began to love it. Now you’re confident in whatever
you’re doing in art world. Art is necessary in our lives because it allows us to express feelings
and thoughts. Also, it allows us experiencing to see, hear, and feel in less stimulating way. Now,
go outside, look around and tell me how you feel. Everything becomes creative and artistic, right?
Art lifts up and gives me hope and inspiration. Art is thinking.” We had a best, long conversation
ever. This was my first time asking her question about art. Now, I began to open my heart toward
art.
There are some people who aren’t feeling connected or expressed through the usual way
of communication like talking to people. The only way they can communicate or express is to
sing, write, play music, or paint. In my own experience, I’m quite shy and really quite, but when
I’m able to sing, play music, and draw, I feel calm, free, and even lively. Don’t you know that art
changes emotion in us, to experience emotions that left us ahead of ourselves?
Another person I interviewed with made me feel inspired. It was my friend, who has huge
devotion in art and is currently attending Art Institute. Looking at art and listening to music is
important. With art,

With art there really are no rules. You may smile, laugh, cry; you might love it or hate it. It all comes
down to perception, and where art is concerned you can feel what you want. I believe that art can
connect us in a way that nothing else can. Art is a true creative act that is used to express opinions and
ideas that might not otherwise be able to be expressed. It can be inspiring and have a great influence on
us. The costumes, lights, characters, photographs, poetry are all very entertaining. They allow us to
envision ourselves in that situation. The more I think about it just about anything that makes you feel
something can be considered art. The possibilities really are endless.
Art appeals to the senses, the sense of sight, hearing, and the inner sense of feeling (please pardon my
spelling) Art is emotional stimulant, art is what makes us human, even those who say they have no liking
for art do like some sort of art, whether it be music or physical art, like baseball or football can be
physical art. dancing is both physical and visual. Go outside and look up at the clouds and tell me that’s
not Divine art.
