Founded in 1994, the Coalition of Residential Excellence (CORE) is an organization dedicated to improving residential care and public support for children in need, especially in high-risk communities. Its functions are many and include providing financial support and awards for deserving school districts and administrators, such as current Milton Hershey School President Pete Gurt '85 in 2009. Milton Hershey School has received several awards from the Coalition of Residential Excellence several times for the work of their students and administrators.

2.  Founded in 1994, the Coalition of Residential Excellence (CORE) is
an organization dedicated to improving residential care and public
support for children in need, especially in high-risk communities. Its
functions are many and include providing financial support and
awards for deserving school districts and administrators, such as
current Milton Hershey School President Pete Gurt '85 in 2009.
Milton Hershey School has received several awards from the
Coalition of Residential Excellence several times for the work of their
students and administrators.
The organization is inspired by the possibility of school and
community support coming from both government and private funds.
CORE originally focused on revamping public policy to support
residential education, and now functions as a reformative force for
economically and socially disadvantaged children.

3.  Today, the Coalition of Residential Excellence
is made up of more than 30 organizations and
continues to advocate for young unsupported
students. Traditionally supported programs in
CORE include charter schools, youth
ranches, children’s homes, and other similar
residential education opportunities that may
provide an appropriate environment for
students needing a supportive environment.
