    • We believe that the Bible teaches 1. The full and eternal deity of Jesus Christ 2. The full and eternal deity of the Holy Spirit 3. The personhood of the Holy Spirit and that 4. Jesus Christ is the truly begotten Son of God 5. The Holy Spirit is the personal presence of God 6. The Holy Spirit since Calvary is Christ’s Life
    • This is not a denial of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is real; He exists, He works, He speaks and knows. The Spirit is a person; the living presence of the Father and His Son. By the Spirit they make their abode in us, dwelling in living temples, fellowshipping with us. Recognizing the Comforter as the Spirit of Christ indeed makes the Saviour closer to us than if he had never left the earth, for now He dwells in us, His mind is in us, He speaks to us, He guides us. He is with us even to the end of the age. Christ was limited in his human body, but is unlimited in his Spirit. As the Spirit He empowers us to overcome sin and resist the devil. He carried our infirmities enabling him to be a faithful High Priest. Therefore He knows the human heart from personal experience. He was tempted in the flesh and now he comes to our aid in the Spirit. He whose words are spirit and he who is the Truth is both the Word and the Spirit of truth
    • “ A knowledge of God is the foundation of all true education and of all true service. It is the only real safeguard against temptation. It is this alone that can make us like God in character...This is the knowledge needed by all who are working for the uplifting of their fellow men. Transformation of character, purity of life, efficiency in service, adherence to correct principles, all depend upon a right knowledge of God . This knowledge is the essential preparation both for this life and for the life to come.” Ministry of Healing p. 409 This is life eternal that they might know Thee [Father], the only true God and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent. John 17:3
    • Presence & Omnipresence of God Divided Presence: Mediator between God and Man Conscious Presence: Mind of God Spoken Presence: Word of God Source of the Spirit: The Father and Son The Comforter-Advocate-Intercessor The Living Spirit: Life of Christ The Sanctifying Spirit: Power to overcome sin Spirit of God before the Cross Spirit of Christ after the Cross Spirit of God after sin
    • Psalm 139 O LORD, You have searched me, and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts from afar off. You are acquainted with all my ways… Such knowledge is too wonderful for me! Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence? If I ascend up into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. PRESENCE

You are acquainted with all my ways… Such knowledge is too wonderful for me! Where shall I go from Your Spirit ? Or where shall I flee from Your presence ? If I ascend up into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. God’s Spirit is God’s presence PRESENCE
    • Psalm 51:11 Cast me not away from Your presence ; And take not Your Holy Spirit from me. God’s Holy Spirit is God’s presence “‘ The Lord’s throne is in heaven’ (Psalm 11:4); yet by His Spirit He is everywhere present . He has an intimate knowledge of, and a personal interest in, all the works of His hand.” Education p. 132 PRESENCE
    • Psalm 11:4 The LORD is in His holy temple, the LORD’s throne is in heaven: His eyes behold , his eyelids try, the children of men 2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth , to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. PRESENCE
    • Exodus 33:14 My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest. Isaiah 63:9 In all their affliction he was afflicted and the angel of His presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them: and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old. PRESENCE
    • “ ‘ I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.’ The divine Spirit that the world’s Redeemer promised to send, is the presence and power of God . He will not leave his people in the world destitute of his grace, to be buffeted by the enemy of God, and harassed by the oppression of the world; but he will come to them. ” Signs of the Times , November 23, 1891 PRESENCE
    • “ The world cannot see the truth; they know not the Father or the Son , but it is only because they do not desire to know God, they do not wish to look upon Jesus, to see his goodness, his love, his heavenly attractions. Jesus is inviting all men to accept him; and wherever the heart is open to receive him, he will come in, gladdening the soul with the light and joy of his presence .” Signs of the Times , November 23, 1891 PRESENCE
    • “ The divine Spirit that the world’s Redeemer promised to send, is the presence and power of God .” Signs of the Times , November 23, 1891 “… the holy Spirit is the comforter, as the personal presence of Christ  to the soul.” Review and Herald  November 29, 1892 “ The Holy Spirit is the vital presence of God , and if appreciated will call forth praise and thanksgiving, and will ever be springing up unto everlasting life.” Bible Echo , August 5, 1901 PRESENCE
    • “ After His ascension He [Jesus] was to be  absent in person ; but through the Comforter  He would  still be with them , and they were not to spend their time in mourning. This was what Satan wanted. He desired them to give the world the impression that they had been deceived and disappointed; but by faith they were to look to the sanctuary above,  where Jesus was ministering for them ; they were to open their hearts to the Holy Spirit,  His representative , and to rejoice in the light of  His presence .”  Desire of Ages p. 277 The Holy Spirit is the presence of Jesus Christ PRESENCE
    • “ The promise of  his continued presence  with his disciples in his representative, the Holy Spirit , was the greatest promise which Jesus could make to his disciples just before the time  when he was to take his bodily presence from them ... Jesus was about to give himself as the living sacrifice for a fallen world, and through this sacrifice the mighty influence of the Holy Spirit was given to the world. Thus the  living presence of the Father and the Son  would be found in and among the people of God.” Review & Herald SS Lesson notes Sept 23, 1902 Bodily presence of Jesus in heaven Living presence of Jesus & Father in us PRESENCE
    • 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. Romans 8:26 The Spirit itself makes intercession for us Verse 34 Christ …is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. (an advocate with the Father 1John 2:1) MEDIATOR
    • 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. “ They would realize no break in their communion , and no diminution of power because of the Saviour’s absence . While Jesus ministers in the sanctuary above, He is still by His Spirit the minister of the church on earth. He is withdrawn from the eye of sense, but His parting promise is fulfilled, ‘Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.’ Matt. 28:20.” Desire of Ages p. 166 MEDIATOR
    • Rom 8:26 Spirit makes intercession for us with groanings that cannot be uttered Heb 5:7 Christ offered up prayers and supplication with strong cries and tears John 11:33 Jesus groaned in the spirit, was troubled “ Every sincere prayer is heard in heaven. It may not be fluently expressed; but if the heart is in it, it will ascend to the sanctuary where Jesus ministers, and He will present it to the Father without one awkward, stammering word , beautiful and fragrant with the incense of His own perfection.” DA p. 667 MEDIATOR

    • “ We have only one channel of approach to God. Our prays can come to him through one name only,--that of the Lord Jesus our advocate . His Spirit must inspire our petitions. No strange fire was to be used in the censers that were waved before God in the sanctuary. So the Lord himself must kindle in our hearts the burning desire, if our prayers are acceptable to him. The Holy Spirit within must make intercessions for us.” Review & Herald Feb 9, 1897 We need a Word from God and a Way to God MEDIATOR
    • In Heaven - the Man Christ Jesus - Mediator Christ’s Humanity Represents Man to God On Earth - the Comforter Jesus - Intercessor Christ’s Spirit Represents God to Man “ While Jesus, our Intercessor, pleads for us in heaven , the Holy Spirit works in us , to will and to do of His good pleasure.” Signs of the Times Oct 3, 1892 MEDIATOR
    • Jesus consented to take human nature, that he might know how to pity sinful, erring mortals. He volunteered to become acquainted with the temptations that beset us, that he might know how to deliver those who are tempted, and that he might know how to plead with his Father in their behalf.” The Southern Watchman, Sept 18, 1906 MEDIATOR
    • John 14:21,22 He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas (not Iscariot) said unto him, Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself unto us, and not to the world? Notice there is no question regarding Who, only How. PRESENCE
    • John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man loves me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock: If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him and sup with him PRESENCE
    • “ Do not forget that  you have a Comforter , the Holy Spirit, which Christ has appointed . You are never alone. If you will listen to the voice that now speaks to you, if you will respond without delay to the knocking at the door of your heart, ‘ Come in, Lord Jesus, that I may sup with Thee , and Thee with me,’ the heavenly Guest will enter. When this element , which is all divine , abides with you, there is peace and rest.”  Ellen G. White to Mrs. Wessels, Letter 124, March 7, 1897 PRESENCE
    • “ The Lord encourages all who seek Him with the whole heart. He gives them His Holy Spirit , the manifestation of His presence and favor.” Testimonies Vol 9, p. 230 1909 “ One mightier than angels would be in their ranks--the General of the armies of heaven….assured that My presence will be with you even there … I will be with you always …guiding, comforting, sanctifying, sustaining you, giving you success in speaking words that shall draw the attention of others to heaven.” Acts of the Apostles p. 29 1911 PRESENCE
    • “ Cumbered with humanity , Christ could   not be in every place personally ; therefore it was altogether for their advantage [expedient] that He should leave them , go to His Father, and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is Himself  divested of the personality of humanity and  independent thereof . He would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit ,   as the Omnipresent .” 14 MR No. 1084, February 18, 1895, page 21 PRESENCE Di-vest  (dī-vĕst') tr.v.   di·vest·ed ,  di·vest·ing ,  di·vests 1.  To strip, as of clothes. 2. a.  To deprive, as of rights or property; dispossess. b.  To free of; rid:  "Most secretive of men, let him at last divest himself of secrets, both his and ours“ 3.  To sell off or otherwise dispose of (a subsidiary company or an investment).
    • “ The Holy Spirit is Christ’s representative , but divested of the personality of humanity , and independent thereof. Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally. Therefore it was for their interest that He should go to the Father, and send the [His] Spirit to be His successor on earth. No one could then have any advantage because of his location or his personal contact with Christ. By the Spirit the Saviour would be accessible to all . In this sense He would be nearer to them than if He had not ascended on high.” Desire of Ages p. 669 PRESENCE

    • “ The ladder is the medium of communi-cation between God and the human race. Through the mystic ladder the gospel was preached to Jacob. As the ladder stretched from earth, reaching to the highest heavens , and the glory of God was seen above the ladder, so Christ in His divine nature reached immensity and was one with the Father .” Manuscript 13, 1884 Manuscript Releases, vol. 19, pp. 353-355 PRESENCE
    • “ As the ladder, though its top penetrated into heaven, had its base upon the earth, so Christ, though [He was] God, clothed His divinity with humanity and was in the world “found in fashion as a man.” The ladder would be useless if it rested not on the earth or if it reached not to the heavens.” PRESENCE
    • “ God appeared in glory above the ladder , looking down with compassion on erring, sinful Jacob, addressing to him words of encouragement. It is through Christ that the Father beholds sinful human beings. The ministering angels were communicating to the inhabitants of the earth through the medium of the ladder.” PRESENCE
    • “ What saith our Saviour? ‘I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you .’ ‘He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father; and I will love him and will manifest myself to him’ When trials overshadow the soul, remember the words of  Christ , remember that He is an unseen presence in the person of the Holy Spirit ,  and He will be the peace and comfort given you, manifesting to you that He is with you , the Sun of Righteousness, chasing away your darkness.” Letter 124, 1897 ( Daughters of God p.185) PRESENCE
    • "If a man love me," Chris t said, "he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him" Be of good cheer; light will come, and your soul will rejoice greatly in the Lord.” Letter 124, 1897 ( Daughters of God p.185) PRESENCE

"Go ye therefore," he said, "and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father [a personal God] , and of the Son [a personal Prince and Saviour] , and of the Holy Ghost [sent from heaven to represent Christ] : teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you alway , even unto the end of the world.” RH, October 26, 1897 [bracketed comments in the original] MIND of GOD
    • “ Nature is not God, nor ever was God. God is in nature, the voice of nature testifies of God, but nature is not God. It only bears testimony to God's power as his created works. • “ The Lord Jesus came to this world to represent the Father. He did not represent God as an essence pervading nature, but as a personal being . • “ The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith , and engaging in a process of reorganization .” St. Helena, October 1903 Testimonies to the Church Containing Letters of Warning and Instruction p. 39; 1SM p. 204 MIND of GOD
    • Were this reformation to take place, what would result? The principles of truth that God in His wisdom has given to the remnant church, would be discarded . Our religion would be changed . Most startling is the teaching regarding Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord… the Trinitarian understanding of God , now part of our fundamental beliefs , was not generally held by the early Adventsists .” William G. Waggoner held to an Arian or semi-Arian view - that is, the Son at some point in time, before the creation of our world, was generated by the Father. Only gradually did this false doctrine give way to the Biblical truth” William Johnsson, Adventist Review January 6, 1994
    • “ These two books (‘The Desire of Ages’ and ‘Looking unto Jesus’) both uplifted Christ but were diametrically opposed on the subject of the eternal deity of God the Son. ” Merlin D. • “ As far as I can fathom, the difficulty which is found in the Living Temple,  the whole thing may be simmered down to this question: is the Holy Ghost a person.   You say no .  I had supposed the Bible said this for the reason that the personal pronoun he is used in speaking of the Holy Ghost.  Sister White uses the pronoun he and has said in as many words that the Holy Ghost is the third person of the Godhead . How the Holy Ghost can be the third person and not be a person at all is difficult for me to see” Dr. John Harvey Kellogg wrote to G. • “ God dwells in us by His Holy Spirit , as a Comforter , as a Reprover, especially the former. When we come to Him, we partake of Him in that sense, because the Spirit comes forth from him ; it comes forth from the Father and the Son ” “ It is not a person walking around on foot, or flying, as a literal being , in any such sense as Christ and the Father are – at least, if it is, it is utterly beyond my comprehension or the meaning of language or words.” G. • “ He [Kellogg] then stated that his former views regarding the trinity had stood in his way of making a clear and absolutely correct statement; but that in a short time he had come to believe in the trinity and could now see pretty clearly where the difficulty was, and believed that he could clear the matter up satisfactorily. He told me that he now believed in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost ; and his view was that it was God the Holy Ghost, and not God the Father, that filled all space and every living thing . ” Letter: A. G. Daniells to W. C. White. Oct 29 , 1903, p1.2. MIND of GOD
    • “ Just such theories as you have presented in Living Temple were presented then. These subtle, deceiving sophistries have again and again sought to find place among us. Not until this was received could the disciples fulfill the commission to preach the gospel to the world. But the Spirit was  now given  for a special purpose.  Before the disciples could fulfill their official duties in connection with the church, Christ breathed His Spirit upon them . It is unthinkable that the Apostolic Church thus disobeyed the express command of the Lord , which it otherwise considered the highest authority. Occurrences like those of Acts xix, 1-7 ought to have shown that the prescribed formula of baptism could not have been shortened to “the name of the Lord Jesus,” if the character of baptism was to be retained as commanded. Judging from I Cor. i, 14-17, Paul did not know Matt. xxviii, 19 ; otherwise he could not have written that Christ had sent him not to baptize, but to preach the gospel.” BAPTISM

    • William Boardman, “The Higher Christian Life” Published 1858 while an evangelist with Dwight L. Moody Part 2 Chapter 1 pages 201-203: “ The Father is as the light invisible. The Son is as the light embodied. The Spirit is as the light shed down.” “ The Father is like the dew in invisible vapor. The Son is like the dew gathered in beauteous form. The Spirit is like the dew fallen to the seat of life.” “ The Father is like to the invisible vapor. The Son is as the laden cloud and falling rain. The Spirit is the rain — fallen and working in refreshing power.” “ These likenings are all imperfect. They rather hide than illustrate the tri-personality of the one God, for they are not persons but things, poor and earthly at best, to represent the living personalities of the living God .”
    • Ellen White in Special Testimonies, Series B, No. 7, pp. 62, 63. (1905); Evangelism 615 quoted Boardman as an example of error: “ The sentiments of those who are searching for advanced scientific ideas are not to be trusted . Such representations as the following are made: ‘The Father is as the light invisible : the Son is as the light embodied; the Spirit is the light shed abroad.’ ‘ The Father is like the dew, invisible vapor ; the Son is like the dew gathered in beauteous form; the Spirit is like the dew fallen to the seat of life.’ Another representation: ‘ The Father is like the invisible vapor ; the Son is like the leaden cloud; the Spirit is rain fallen and working in refreshing power.’ All these spiritualistic representations are simply nothingness. They are imperfect, untrue. They weaken and diminish the Majesty which no earthy likeness can be compared to. God cannot be compared with the things His hands have made.”
    • DOUG BATCHELOR   An Amazing Fact: Science tells us that light is constituted of three primary rays, or groups of wavelengths . Clearly distinct from each other, none of them without the others could be light. Each ray has its own separate function. The first originates, the second illuminates, and the third consummates. The first ray, often called invisible light, is neither seen nor felt. The second is both seen and felt . The third is not seen but is felt as heat . Like light, our “One God” is revealed in the three distinct persons of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. “For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one” (1 John 5:7 NKJV).

I have seen that some who have been deceived and led into this error will be brought out into the light of truth, but it will be almost impossible for them to get entirely rid of the deceptive power of Spiritualism .” Early Writings , page 77 1851
    • Boardman continued to expound on the three personalities of God: “ They may also illustrate the truth that all the fulness of Him who filleth all in all, dwells in each person of the Triune God . The Father is all the fulness of the Godhead invisible. The Son is all the fulness of the Godhead manifested. The Spirit is all the fulness of the Godhead making manifest . The persons are not mere offices, or modes of revelation, but living persons of the living God.” “ These likenings are all imperfect. They were thinking of the outward, visible manifestation. They could not take in the fact that they could have the presence of Christ with them, and yet He be unseen by the world. They did not understand the meaning of a spiritual manifestation .” The Southern Review , September 13, 1898 LIFE

    • “ Christ declared that after his ascension, he would send to his church, as his crowning gift , the Comforter , who was to take his place. This Comforter is the Holy Spirit,-- the soul of his life , the efficacy of his church, the light and life of the world. With his Spirit Christ sends a reconciling influence and a power that takes away sin.” Review and Herald , May 19, 1904 LIFE

    • “ I have received yours dated June 3. In this letter you speak in these words: "Elder Robinson does not wish me to leave, but urges that I enter the canvassing field until such time as the conference can afford to employ me in some other capacity, but states positively that I cannot be sent out to present the truth to others until some points held by me are changed or modified in order that the views regarded by us as a people should be properly set forth. He quotes as a sample, ' My idea in reference to the Holy Ghost's not being the Spirit of God, which is Christ , but the angel Gabriel, and my belief that the 144,000 will be Jews who will acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah. On all fundamental points I am in perfect harmony with our people; but when I try to show what seems to me to be new light on the truth, those in authority, none of whom have seemingly ever made a personal investigation of the matter, refuse to look into the Bible, but brand me as a fellow with queer ideas of the Bible.'" My brother, you have asked me candidly for advice. Please read with attention John 17:17-27. I quote verses 20 to 23: [verses 20-23, quoted].” p. 175
    • Our Lord especially prayed that His disciples might be united in the closest bonds of Christian fellowship and love; as one body, under one supreme Head. This will exist only in proportion to the degree of their illumination and sanctification. The more fully they receive the enlightenment of the living Spirit, the more nearly will they harmonize in their understanding of what is truth. The more closely they are united in judgment, the more confidence they have in one another. They are blessed with peace and harmony, believing and speaking the same things, "with one heart and one mouth glorifying God." Their love, their Christian unity, is an evidence to the world that God has sent Jesus to save sinners, and with convicting power it testifies that the Word of God is the safe rule of life. The differences that now exist among Christians did not exist in the days of Christ or His apostles. When the gospel was preached after the resurrection and ascension of Christ, union prevailed; the believers were all of one heart and one mind. For a short time there was a difference of understanding in regard to circumcision, as to whether admission to the church should be granted to the uncircumcised Gentiles; but this matter was soon settled, and through the divine illumination and sanctification of the Spirit the believers were perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. This was and always will be the fruit that is borne under the influence of the Holy Spirit. P. 176
    • Brethren should not feel that it is a virtue to stand apart because they do not see all minor points in exactly the same light. If on fundamental truths they are at an agreement, they should not differ and dispute about matters of little real importance. To dwell on perplexing questions that, after all, are of no vital importance , has a direct tendency to call the mind away from truths which are vital to the saving of the soul. Brethren should be very modest in urging these side issues which often they do not themselves understand, points that they do not know to be truth and that it is not essential to their salvation to know . When there is difference of opinion on such points, the less prominence you give to them the better it will be for your own spirituality and for the peace and unity that Christ prayed might exist among brethren. Unbelievers are critical, and they want to frame some excuse for not receiving the truth as it is in Jesus. Where these differences exist among us, those who stand outside will say, "It will be time enough for us to believe as you do when you can agree among yourselves as to what constitutes truth." The ungodly take advantage of the divisions and controversies among Christians. P. 177
    • There are among us more who are merely nominal Christians than many suppose. These are not connected with Christ, are not one with Him, and therefore do not feel that it is incumbent on them to answer the prayer of Christ that His followers may be one. But some who are real believers catch the spirit of contention. Some are ever seeking to be original, to bring out something new and startling , and they do not realize as they should the importance of preserving the unity of the faith in the bonds of love. P. 177 Christians are to be made complete in the one body--in Christ ; and through Christ they are one with the Father. What is the result? They give evidence that they have not followed cunningly devised fables but the sure word of prophecy. By their words and actions, all men will take knowledge of them that they have been with Jesus and learned of Him. They are a holy, happy people, the objects of Christ’s divine love. “ I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that Thou hast sent Me, and hast loved them as Thou hast loved Me” [verse 23]. “And I have declared unto them Thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith Thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them” [verse 26]. With what earnest effort should we seek for unity, for oneness. The church is to be perfected through sufferings after the example of Christ. Being conformed to His image, we shall be one with Him. P. 178
    • “ Your ideas of the two subjects you mention do not harmonize with the light which God has given me. The nature of the Holy Spirit is a mystery not clearly revealed, and you will never be able to explain it to others because the Lord has not revealed it to you. You may gather together scriptures and put your construction upon them, but the application is not correct. The expositions by which you sustain your position are not sound. You may lead some to accept your explanations, but you do them no good, nor are they, through accepting your views, enabled to do others good. It is not essential for you to know and be able to define just what the Holy Spirit is. Christ tells us that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, and the Comforter is the Holy Ghost, "the Spirit of truth, which the Father shall send in My name." "I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him , for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you" [John 14:16, 17]. This refers to the omnipresence of the Spirit of Christ, called the Comforter . Again Jesus says, "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth" [John 16:12, 13].
    • There are many mysteries which I do not seek to understand or to explain; they are too high for me, and too high for you. On some of these points, silence is golden . Piety, devotion, sanctification of soul, body, and spirit--this is essential for us all. • Christ did not tell His disciples that their work would be easy. He showed them the vast confederacy of evil arrayed against them. They would have to fight “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12. But they would not be left to fight alone. He assured them that He would be with them ; and that if they would go forth in faith, they should move under the shield of Omnipotence. He bade them be brave and strong; for One mightier than angels would be in their ranks--the General of the armies of heaven . He made full provision for the prosecution of their work and took upon Himself the responsibility of its success. So long as they obeyed His word, and worked in connection with Him, they could not fail. Go to all nations, He bade them. Go to the farthest part of the habitable globe and be assured that My presence will be with you even there. Labor in faith and confidence; for the time will never come when I will forsake you. I will be with you always, helping you to perform your duty, guiding, comforting, sanctifying, sustaining you, giving you success in speaking words that shall draw the attention of others to heaven. • If men would but take the Bible as it reads , if there were no false teachers to mislead and confuse their minds, a work would be accomplished that would make angels glad and that would bring into the fold of Christ thousands upon thousands who are now wandering in error. Great Controversy 598 Those who believe that word just as it reads are held up to ridicule. There is a growing contempt for law and order, directly traceable to a violation of the plain commands of Jehovah. Prophets and Kings , p. 185 God sends them light to undeceive them, but they refuse to take the Word of God as it reads. They accept error, choosing the lies of Satan rather than a "Thus saith the Lord." And these advocates of error make it very hard for those who see the truth to obey it. Manuscript 19, 1894 Evangelism p. 239
    • We are to take the Word of God as it reads , the words of Christ as He has spoken them. Signs of the Times , Aug. 18, 1887 The Bible, just as it reads , is to be our guide. Nothing is so calculated to enlarge the mind and strengthen the intellect as the study of the Bible. Review and Herald , Sept 28, 1897 Satan is a cunning worker, and he will bring in subtle fallacies to darken and confuse the mind and root out the doctrines of salvation. Those who do not accept the Word of God just as it reads , will be snared in his trap. Selected Messages Book 2 p. 47 Brethren, cling to your Bible, as it reads , and stop your criticisms in regard to its validity, and obey the Word, and not one of you will be lost. The ingenuity of men has been exercised for ages to measure the Word of God by their finite minds and limited comprehension. Selected Messages Book 1 p. 18
    • The word of God, just as it reads , contains the very essence of truth. Medical Evangelist Oct 1, 1909 When those who profess to believe present truth come to their senses, when they accept the word of God just as it reads , when they do not try to wrest the Scriptures, they will bring from the treasure-house of the heart things new and old, to strengthen themselves and those for whom they labor. Review and Herald , June 18, 1901 The Word of God is infallible ; accept it as it reads ; look with confidence to God; trust Him to qualify you for His service. • On July 14, Prescott identified who the Holy Spirit was beginning on page 710 of the 1919 Bible Conference Transcripts PRESCOTT: Now shall we advance one step farther and call attention to this fact. Read John 15:26: “And when the Comforter is come whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the spirit of truth which proceedeth from the Father. ” This is the spirit of truth. He is, and announces himself as, the spirit of truth . The spirit of truth is the spirit of Christ. The spirit in Jesus. Now the promise of the Spirit—the Comforter—in the 17th verse was that “ he shall be in you ” which was to be fulfilled “in that day when ye shall know that I am in you. ”
    • That is the advent of the Comforter, the advent of this person of Christ in the Spirit — divested now of his humanity to dwell with our humanity. To get this clear we must take all the Scriptures : “That Christ may dwell in your heart ,” “Crucified with Christ”, “ Christ living in me .” All these Scriptures that speak of the indwelling Christ are fulfilled by the indwelling of the Comforter, and we have just that measure of the indwelling Christ that we have of the indwelling of the Comforter. But now he ministers that Comforter , he ministers that life himself , as found from the second chapter of Acts where it says “he is at the right hand of God, the minister of the true sanctuary of the Lord.
