2. Hello! Welcome to the Erasmus+ survival guide!
In this booklet , you will find handy tips for Erasmus students!
It will help future Erasmus students on their journey.
We hope this survival guide is going to help you!
1. Communicating with your host
You can communicate with your host trough social media like Facebook , Twitter, Instagram and
WhatsApp .
But did you know there exists a special platform only for Erasmus students? It’s called eTwinning.
On this website you can see everyone who is participating in the project.
eTwinning is a great platform for easily communicating with your host and/or your guest.
Here are some questions to ask your host before you arrive:
-How old are you?
-Do you have a brother and/or sister?
-Is it cold there? What clothes should I bring?
-Do you have a pet?
-What do you do in the evening?
-What do you do in your spare time?
Here are some questions to ask your guest before he has arrived:
-How old are you?
-Are you allergic to anything?
-Is there any type of food you can’t eat or absolutely don’t like?
-What’s your favorite food?
-What do you eat for breakfast/on your sandwich?
-What do you do in your spare time?
3. 2. Arriving in the host family
Arriving in your host family can always be a little stressful; you’re meeting people you’ve never
seen before, you maybe might’ve talked to them. But meeting them in real life is always different
than chatting.
Here are some things you can ask your host when you’ve arrived at his home:
-Where do I put my jacket/shoes?
-Where do I sleep?
-Can I unpack please?
-Where is the bathroom?
-When do we have diner?
-When do I have to wake up?
-When do I have to sleep?
Here are some questions the host can ask to the guest:
-How was your journey?
-Do you want to discover your room?
-Do you want to see the bathroom?
-What do you think of Belgium, from what you’ve seen?
-Are you hungry?
-Do you need something?
-Shall I explain how the shower works?
-Do you want the Wi-Fi password?
4. 3. Going to school with your host
When you’ve unpacked and you’re settled, it’s time to go to school. So that means: getting up
early, wash yourself, having breakfast… And after that it’s time for school: seeing how other
people go to school, seeing new people, meeting new people….
Here are some things the guest can ask about school:
-Is the school far away?
-How do we go to school? Do we take a bus, do we go on foot or with the bike?
-When does your school start?
-When does your school end?
-Is there a break?
-When are we having lunch?
Here are some things the host can ask about school:
-Is your school far away from your home?
-How do you go to school?
-When does your school start? When does it end?
-What do you eat for lunch at school?
-Are phones allowed at your school?
5. 4. Eating
When you come home from a long day at school, or somewhere else, most people are hungry. We
are people, so I think most of the students will be quite hungry. Every country has different eating
habit . So there will be a little adapting process .
Here are some things the guest can ask about the eating :
-What’s the national dish of this country?
-Can I take a bottle of water?
-Can I have some fruit/a cookie?
-What are we eating tonight?
Here are some questions the host can ask about eating:
-What kind of food do you like?
-Are you allergic to any type food?
- What sweets do you like?
-What do you eat for breakfast?
-Is there any type of food you can’t eat or don’t like?
6. 5. Spare time & extra things
‘Na inspanning komt ontspanning ‘ we say in dutch. It means: After you worked, you’ve earned a
little bit of relaxation. And that’s true! But everyone does different things after school or work. Some
people like gaming, others like playing football…
Here are some questions the you can ask about spare time:
-What are your hobbies?
-Do you like (board)games?
-Do you play any sports?
-Can you play an instrument?
- Are you good at arts?
-Do you like shopping?
Here are some extra things you can ask:
-What music do you like?
-Do you like school?
-Do you like movies, what’s your favourite movie?
-What’s the latest craze for kids in your country?
- What do you want to accomplish in your further life?
-Which country do you want to visit one day?
-What religion do you have?
