2. Operating Model
EA Sports games could not be as big as they are unless they were not surrounded by
companies such as Microsoft. Microsoft a huge company that makes different hardware
such as consoles like the Xbox 360. Sony, along with Microsoft make hardware such as
the PlayStation. EA Sports gaming would not be able to have any business if these
hardware companies did not exist, therefore it is important that the relationship
between these huge companies are extremely good. EA sports is an integrated company
with allied related surrounding companies such as Microsoft and Sony.
Competition is high between Sony and Microsoft to make EA sports sell its games to
help boost their products. EA Sports is the link to the success of Microsoft and vice
versa.
3. The majority of EA Sports games are rated at 3+. This means that the game is available for
all ages. Some games are at a higher rating of 12+ these are games such as WWE sports
(wrestling).
The 3 is the symbol
for how old
someone has to be
to be allegeable to
play this game. This
game is for FIFA 13.
WWE 13 however should only be
played by 16 years and above as it is
classes as a violent game.
4. Competition
There is not many media companies that can match up to the ratings that EA sports
produce for their particular category of gaming, as they have the highest ratings for
games such as FIFA. Although there is a big company called Activision that makes the
game Call Of Duty. This along with FIFA are the most popular games worldwide. This
makes the competition fierce between EA and Activision. Activision’s profit margin is
19.89% compared to EA sports profit margin which is at a rate of 4.42%. These statistics
suggest that Activision are a more developed company. Call Of Duty, Black Ops; a game
made by Activision has been recorded as the best selling game of all time. Also with EA
being sports based, more of the Call Of Duty sales are worldwide compared to FIFA which
is sold worldwide but the majority of sales in the UK and Europe.
Another competitor for EA is 2K gaming. 2K gaming was only introduced in 2005 and is
not as big of competitor to EA but is growing substantially. Along with Activision, 2K
produce a wide range of games such as Grand theft auto. Its wide range of games,
stretching through different categories of sport and war craft gaming.
