Dmitri Mendeleev was a Russian chemist who is best known for creating the first version of the periodic table of elements in 1869. He arranged the 63 known elements by atomic weight into his periodic table, which allowed elements with similar properties to be grouped together in an organized manner. Mendeleev left gaps in his periodic table for elements that were not yet discovered, which demonstrated that his periodic law could predict the properties of unknown elements.
