My slides from WebExpo 2022 keynote for Frontendisti.cz stage.
The world is changing, the frontend is changing, and we have to change with it. What makes 2022 special? Take a look at it through the eyes of a representative of the Frontendisti.cz community.

2. 1977
I am 45 years old this year. I was born in 1977.
3. In the same year, NASA launched the Voyager 1 mission.
Voyager is still floating in space and partially works. Same with me.
No, really. Sometime I feel really anchient.
4. Browsers
But I'm not here to talk about myself. I want to talk about our beloved browsers.
I want to talk about what's changed so much about browsers.
12. Developers started putting icons like this on their sites.
But it was strange because Microsoft was not participating in web
standards and creating its own.
13. 2022
This year is completely different.
All big tech companies, including
Microsoft, are working on web
standards.
But we have another problem
here. Different browsers have
different priorities. So we're
waiting a long time for some
new features.

Chrome Safari Edge ETC Firefox
We have two major browsers -
Chrome and Safari - and several
smaller ones.
Internet Explorer doesn't exist
anymore. As developers we
have nothing to complain about.
Safari has taken over the role of
Explorer.
15. But not for long. In 2021, Apple
started working more on Safari.
They hired lots of developers
and things started to change.

16. A year ago, Safari was the
worst in terms of adopting new
features.

17. But this year Safari
started to be far
better than Firefox.
18. I got the chart from the Compat
2021 initiative.
It's a group of people trying to
unify browser development.
They determine which features
from web standards are most
important.

19. • Grid
• position:sticky
• aspect-ratio()
Thanks to them, we have a
number of new features in
modern browsers.
For example, they removed
bugs in Flexbox and Grid.
They also added position:sticky
or the CSS property aspect-
ratio.
20. This year's initiative is called
Interop 2022. It seeks to focus
on new features and get them
into browsers.

21. • CSS Cascade Layers
• <dialog>
• CSS color functions
• Subgrid
• …
Thanks to this, we can now
present features like CSS
cascade layers or element
dialog in HTML on this stage.
And we look forward to more
news.
22. This is the current status.
As you can see, smaller browsers can now compete with Chrome.
I think this is great for us as web developers!

23. If browsers can do it,
so could we.
Less competition and more
cooperation.
