The world as we know it.... the future of technology
1. The World as we Know It…
A look ahead to the future of
technology.
2. The Internet
• The internet is one technology landscape that is ever
changing, from dial-up to wireless to what the future may hold
in terms of the “new internet.”
• Rodger’s Diffusion of Innovation applies directly to the internet
and how it has changed since it first came about.
– -This theory is a five-step decision making process that an innovation must
go through with consumers in order to confirm the usefulness of the
innovation.
– -Internet users first had to gain knowledge of it. Then they would persuade
others about it. Next they had to decide to accept or neglect it, and
finally came the implementation and conformation of the internet.
4. Internet in 2023
•
With the acceptation of the internet came the quick development over the past
two decades. In order to remain relevant the internet will have to evolve at the
rate of the computer industry.
•
We have seen many versions of the internet. First there was dial-up, now the
majority of internet users are using wireless broadband connections or satellite. I
believe the only place for the internet to expand from here would be to a virtual,
electronicless, internet.
•
The idea of an internet such as J.A.R.V.I.S, the type of computer system that
movies such as Iron Man show, are not too far off in our futures.
5. 20/20 Vision?
• From glasses and contacts to the ability to watch 3D movies in your own
home, the idea of technological glasses is one that will be sticking around.
• The uses and gratification theory applies to the idea that technological
glasses will become a product that is highly relied upon in the future.
– This theory says that the audience will seek out media and content
that will directly result in gratification of their personal desires and
needs. Since people feel that the use of more technology in everyday
items, such as glasses, is something that will bring them gratification I
would not be surprised to see glasses become more and more
advanced.
7. The Evolution of the Car
•
•
From the time that the first car came around in the 15th
century to the newest cars that drive the roads today, many
changes have taken place.
Cars have adapted and improved drastically over the years.
This can be explained by looking at Moore’s Innovation
Adoption Rate theory.
– This theory says that changes in innovations will occur
over time if there are new benefits to the consumer that
come with the change.
Since we rely so much on transportation we will see
the technology of our vehicles to continue to change
and produce more benefits for the consumer in the
future.
8. Self-Driving Cars
• Volvo already has plans in place to build and
release a self-driving car in 2017.
– Volvo plans to release 100 cars in Germany first.
These cars will have a maximum speed of 45 mph.
• Other car companies are attempting to design
similar vehicles to compete with Volvo’s
design.
