About the Food Bank of Lincoln

The BackPack Program provides food filled backpacks to
students in need of food over the weekend. The program
Primarily targets students who qualify for their school’s
Free Lunch Program. Many of these students rely on
their school’s breakfasts and lunches for their most
nutritious meals of the day. In some cases, these may be
their only meals of the day. These students are then
faced with a food crisis over the weekend. The BackPack
Program is a way to help these students and their
families until students return to school on Monday.
About the Food Bank of Lincoln

                  Neighborhood Food Program
The Food Bank of Lincoln works with the Center for
People in Need to sponsor mobile pantries at four sites
per week in Lincoln. This program, called Neighborhood
FOOD , is held at community gathering places in some of
Lincoln’s lowest income areas and currently serves
                  approximately 1,300 families per week.
About the Food Bank of Lincoln

                  Rural Food Distribution
The Food Bank of Lincoln collaborates with Catholic
Social Services in several rural communities to sponsor
mobile pantries at local sites. Every month the Food
Bank takes a truckload of food to rural sites where
volunteers pitch in and distribute supplies to families.
About the Food Bank of Lincoln

                  Agency Distribution Network
We collaborate with our network of agency partners in
our 16-county service area that support all of our efforts
to distribute food in Southeast Nebraska. Our nonprofit
partners cover all segments of the community.
About the Food Bank of Lincoln

                  Food for Seniors
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) in
partnership with the Indian Center, provides commodity
food packages to elderly persons at least 60 years of age
who meet income eligibility requirements. CSFP food
packages are good sources of nutrients typically lacking
in the diets of the target populations.
About the Food Bank of Lincoln

                  SNAP – Food Stamp Outreach
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is the
country’s primary nutrition assistance program, and yet
thousands of eligible families do not receive the
benefits. Our SNAP Outreach Program aims to increase
the number of eligible residents receiving SNAP benefits
About the Food Bank of Lincoln

                  Housewarming Program
The Food Bank of Lincoln introduced the Housewarming
Project in 2005, the Food Bank invited women moving
out of shelters into their own households to come to the
Food Bank with their case worker to shop for 100
pounds of groceries. The Housewarming shoppers would
also receive bags of household necessities such as paper
goods, cleaning supplies and laundry items.
In 2009 the Housewarming project expanded to include
male clients as well as women. In 2010 the
Housewarming Program moved to the Good Neighbor
                  Community Center .
