ASPERGER SYNDROME
The lack of demonstrated empathy is possibly the most dysfunctional aspect of Asperger syndrome-AS. Individuals with AS experience difficulties in basic elements of social interaction, whitch may include a failure to develop friendships or to seek shared enjoyments or archievements with others, a lack of social or emotional reciprocity, and impaired nonverbal behaviors in areas such as eye contact, fasial exression, posture and gesture.

People with Asperger syndrome often display behavior, intrests and activitis that are restricted and repetitive and are sometimes abnormally intense or focused. They may stick to inflexible routines, move in stereotyped and repetiteve ways or preoccypy themselves with parts of objects.

Internship-TRAINING, KERAVA
Service:
Personalised, out reaching and integrated support for clients with Asperger syndrome as well as others who may benefit from the service
Resources:
2 trainers, 1 assistant and 1 part-time supervisor
Clients:
18 clients, includes 8 in leasure activities and 10 in individual training
We have a responsibility for 9 municipalities, 2 hospital districts, for two different projects as well as individuals

Day activity internship instructor
My most important role as intern is to find out the clients strengths and create a enpowerment activities for this special population.
I`m listening, reacting and encouraging my clients to do things what they didn`t even no that they can do.
Using the TTAP Method will assist me in a structure that this special population can follow and has meaning.

TTAP-METHOD WITH OUR CLIENTS

STEP ONE- Conversation
Sharing ideas and placing them on paper. We use
four different pictures for helping make a decision.
Pictures was a summer, feelings, sport and
animals.
Group choose the picture of Summer.

STEP TWO- Music
We were listening a music, which make group think of Summer (wind, birds, etc.).
Music we use was Finnish:
Anne Mattila: Perutaan häät
Anna Eriksson: Juliet ja Jonatan
Kesä hengittää
PMMP: Rusketusraidat

STEP THREE-Drawing
We were painting along with the music and images came to the clients minds’ as to what the sound evoked- the sounds we use this second session was sounds of the rainforest.

STEP FOUR-Sculpture
We then used paper mache’ to sculpted shapes and objects. The is a magicbutterfly, stone from the sea and two cups.

STEP FIVE- Movement We went to the Kuusijärvi and we play diffrent finnish games. One of my clients did take these pictures. There was a little lake but water was so cold that nobady wanted to swim. We walked in forest, grilling sausage and enjoyed the sunshine and weather

STEP SIX- Words and Poetry
We create a group story and poetry into words what we put on paper at first step.
It was hard to my clients cause they have problems to describe things. Still we made it!!!

STEP SEVEN-Food Session
We made a cake that is traditional food to eat in summer. Group made a early potatous and herring. Desert was a strawberries and cream.

STEP ONE- Back to Conversation
Group participants’ brought some photos from their earlier summers with their families and we all looked at these together. They were all able to share memories. This was the most impressive moment for this group as they wouldnt normally interact in this manner.They described where they have been and what they have eaten and what kind of clothes they have wearing. This enhanced their ability to recall and share their memories with others.
The TTAP Method clearly stimulated the cognitive abilites of all participants involved.

My Observations:
My clients were highly motivated with the TTAP Method process and I haven`t seen this kind of focusing and personal exchange ever before.
Client’s were excited for each new step and the TTAP Method structured what I was planning for the clients.
Participants’ enjoyed working together which is very important for this population.
There was more cognitive and emotional stimulation seen with each person.
