2. Shot 1
The first thing we see in this opening is the logo of the film company falling
into place. Behind this logo the colours change from bloody reds and dark
yellows to eerie blues and blacks. this matched with the low orchestral
music in the background sets the tone for this film.
3. Shot 2
This shot shows an extreme long shot of a funfair. This could be introducing
the audience to the overall setting of the film and that this is what the film
will be based around. Also how the funfair is being shown at the night time
gives a sinister feel to the film instantly.
4. Shot 3
At this point, there is digetic sound coming through, screams from people
from this ride can be heard and this could make the audience feel
uncomfortable as they are unaware whether they are screams of laughter
and fun from the rides or screams of pain and suffering.
5. Shot 4
In this shot you can clearly see a shot of a mirror, one of many
thriller conventions. In the background at this time you can hear
non-digetic ticking noisies. This brings out an enigma for the
audience, asking questions such as ‘what could the ticking noises
symbolize?’
6. Shot 5
This shot shows a finger pointing to tarot cards. For those who are familiar
will realise that tarot cards are for reading out someones future. This could
suggest to the audience that someones fate is at risk in this film.
7. Shot 6
A shot of the devil indicates to the audience that something
evil/devilish is going to occur within this film. this then confirms to
the audience the genre of film they are going to watch.
8. Shot 7
This again is giving an enigma to the audience; asking them a
question through the screen. As this question is never answered in
the film, we can suggest that this is a rhetorical question that will
leave the audience thinking throughout the film, and that fortunes
will play a big role during the film.
9. Shot 8
The candle lit pictures create a sinister feel to the opening scenes.
As the opening scene flicks through various shots at quite a pace,
many of the audience may miss the signs that lie within each shot.
For example the word ‘death’ is written above the picture.
10. Shot 9
The last shot in this opening is of a pin-ball dropping into a hole labelled
‘death’. This could get the audience thinking about what will happen in the
film, get the, wandering about what this could symbolise for the characters
in the film, and therefore make them want to watch the rest of the film.
