1. How did you use new
media technology in
the construction,
research, planning and
evaluation stages?
2. I used Photoshop when completing my ancillary task I
created a front cover and poster for my entire main product.
I was able to use Photoshop to edit my images and create
layout and design and to experiment with composition
which went well. I have used Photoshop before and so it
generally went well for me. I completed most of my ancillary
work using Photoshop. Photoshop only provided one issue-
time. Depending on how big the file is Photoshop can freeze,
this wasn’t a big issue as to overcome this I could re size the
file or let Photoshop run before use it to warm it up -prevent
the freezing. To refine the ancillary task I used to healing
tool when air brushing the face to create a smoother
complexion. I used the gradient box and the contrast tool to
get a deeper colour for the backdrop and the image of the
main artist.
Compared to designing
print artefacts I am better
at air brushing the face on
Photoshop in comparison
to my as project.
3. I didn’t have any issues with rendering with premier pro.
When importing the clips it rendered the clip automatically
and rendering all of the clips at the end. Which was a lot less
stress for me as I had previously encountered such issues
Premier pro had all the quality of final cut and so I was able
edit in edit making e smallest and largest details. For example
I was able when changing the colour of the screen to create a
darker / bluer tone, there was a scroll so I had the ability to
form the exact tone my video and the direction I was going
in. Premier pro overall was good however when editing the
video,. Rendering I did a few times encountering it freezing
rebooting the computer however that was an easily
overcome issue as all I had to do was re render the video at
the end. This allowed me to focus on uploading Photoshop
files or create power points of print screens of the video. This
was easily fixed. I used specific features used to edit e.g.
cross fading and fading to black out transitions, razor tool
when cutting the clip before adding effects and also the
opacity of the clip so the can layer over each other. I used this
for the last 40 seconds of my video to create a video
montage. Editing software is a lot more precise as there are
more editing techniques that are used for specific things, if
not used correctly you would have to redo what you have
done previously so that you do don’t complicate any other
edits.
4. Final cut I used for editing me my video. The things I could do on
final cut were editing and when editing provided a professional
quality as it was at a different quality standard to media
technology such as movie maker. Final cut I found at the
beginning was handy in terms of positioning my clips and adding
my audio to my video clips. Final cut also allowed me to view
both screens was helpful but it proved to have the largest
amount of issues. In my school we didn’t have the computers to
use premier pro, but once we did we moved to premier pro. Final
cut kept freezing, taking time to render was incredible tedious as
it wouldn’t allow us to render all clips and when editing it would
have to adjust the time of the clip to match the tempo of the
song it would have to re render which would take about 6
minutes every time to do so, which would slow us down
tremendously. There was another issue with final cut as matching
the audio to the clip we experience a technical fault as it made a
sharp disconnected sound once we imported it. Those were the
main problems using final cut. The other advantage I had was
the varied large editing abilities that I found made the use of final
cut progressive. I overcame all these issues by changing the
sequence of the video however the rendering issue of the video
was unfixable and so we changed to premier pro on a big apple
mac computer. I’ve used premier pro previously so it was a
pleasure to re visit that technology and use it for my video
5. Slide share was a useful new media technology. I used
slide share for uploading onto my blog power points of my
work. If I needed to create a screen shot PowerPoint or
mood board of looks and ideas and location shots, this is
what i would use to upload these on. I didn’t encounter
any issues with slide share as it was very straight forward
to use. I have previously used slides share when uploading
my as work onto my blog and so I was very familiar as to
how to upload / embedded onto my blog.
6. I used sound cloud to upload voice notes. If I was doing an
interview or being assessed by someone I could make a voice
not e and then upload this onto my blog. I had a few issues
with uploading sound cloud onto my blogger. I think as the
sound cloud website was changed it was tricky to navigate on
the page however it was fairly simple for me to follow
instructions and then upload onto my blog and overcome this
issue- the basis of uploading sound cloud onto my blog was
the same as it was in AS.
7. I used power point to upload collages or mood
boards or even when analysing certain shots
within the video. I was able to highlight things
visually and then point them out and analyse
with text. It allowed me to use both picture
and text, which is handy and it keeps things
interesting, breaking up word paragraphs that
may seem monotonous. Nothing went wrong
with power point it has always been a familiar
media technology. With power point I was able
to do a lot of my research planning and was
able to view various artist’s cd covers like
Beyoncé and screen shot their work, compare
and evaluate how the construct my own
version. It was very helpful.
8. Blogger I found one of the best sites for me to
show my individuality of my work. I a in a
group of 4 and so I was able to show my
analysis and thoughts on ancillary work and
main product. Blogger has been very useful.
The only thing that is a drawback time wise is
that I can’t directly upload videos, I would have
to go through YouTube or other sites to do so.
It was handy in gaining criticism and feedback
on what I have changed which provided a
constant access for my teacher to view my
work. Blogger towards the end of my project,
when evaluating my work has been useful as I
am able to upload my work using different
forms of media. For example, videos voice
notes, power points, graphs and questions,
and text analysis.
9. I have recently created an account on YouTube
where I can upload my videos and then am
able to embed my video onto my blog. It was
also a way for me to research artist and
evaluate their work. As I can re play it I can
then critically evaluate their work and it
helped me to develop an understanding of
video conventions. As a free site I have access
to comments on videos, to gain insight on a
wider audience’s perspective on work.
10. I used unsigned.com, which is a very new
media technology for me as I found artists. It
provided me with a very large range of
unsigned artists. Due to the large amount of
artists that I had to scan through, I listened to a
lot of songs that didn’t have much quality. In
the end I used YouTube and found other
websites, to find 3 unsigned artists to use for
my music video. I finalized the artist Delilah
and her song ‘the gospel’.
11. The camera equipment was overall good. I used it to film, light
and capture when filming the video. The quality of the shots were
good, but only to a certain level as being an A2 video I wasn’t
accessible to high quality camera and didn’t have a large filming
budget. For the house scenes especially, I was able to use the
lighting effectively. As there were plug points I was able to control
the way in which the lighting hit the performers and created
ambience. We used filters to soften the lights. I also used a strobe
light which gave the performer a distraught and disappearing
effect. Sometimes we wouldn’t use a tripod for example when
filming the point of view shots In the forest. Also we weren’t able
to do some of the city night shots as the lighting weren’t available
to us as we didn’t have portable lighting. To fix this issue were re-
visited our ideas and changed the night shots to day time shots.
12. Garage band usually found on apple mac
computer was very handy as I was able to
upload my voice over for my intro. The into is
the first roughly 10 seconds on the video. and
then edit the tempo and speed to match the
song. I also used garage band to create the
backing beat behind the voice over to blend
the song and video together. This was an easy
task to do and very effective.
