Questions for cases on Operations Management
Case-I (INDUSTRIE PININFARINA)
1. How has the competitive environment for niche manufacturers been changing over the past few
years? What factors are affecting the competitiveness of niche manufacturers such as Pininfarina with
volume manufacturers in Europe?
2. As Renado Bertrandi, what do you see as the most significant challenges facing Pininfarina over the
next five years? What are Pininfarina’s options?
3. Should Bertrandi accept the Mitsubishi business? How should Pininfarina position itself to compete in
the future?
Case-II (UNICON CONCRETE PRODUCTS (H.K.) LTD.)
1. As Mr. Li, would you pursue the blanket approval for slabs and facades? Why?
2. What changes do you foresee to Unicon’s operations if the blanket approval is accepted by the HKHA?
3. What steps would you take to increase the production of slabs and facades? How would you
implement your plan?
Each case report has to be submitted by every group. The weightage per case report is 7.5%. Total
Weightage for my portion is 15%. Rest of the internal evaluation (15%) is to be undertaken by Dr. D.
Das/ Prof. H.K Dangi at NC/SC respectively.
