John Adams was the second president of the United States, born in 1735 in Massachusetts. He practiced law after college and married Abigail Smith in 1764, with whom he had four children. Adams was president from 1774 to 1777 and later asked George Washington to lead the army. In 1788, Adams went to Paris to promote friendlier relations between the United States and France.
