The business plan competition was envisaged by the Africa Diaspora Marketplace whose sponsors include the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Western Union Company. The competition was created to harness the entrepreneurial resources of the U.S. based Africa community in conjunction with their partners in Sub-Sahara Africa to promote business initiatives that will spur economic growth in the region. It is hoped that these enterprise once funded will help in the transfer of knowledge and expertise. This will create job opportunities, foster income generating activities and enable the provision of essential essential goods and services. KinConsult management received news from the ADM team via e-mail on October 26th 2010 and the information was quickly disseminated to its team members in both offices. There was a lot of joy and jubilation however reality quickly set in. One phase of the competition may be over but the next phase is the most competitive and most demanding. The team has to put in a comprehensive business plan and defend their proposal in Washington DC from January 12-14, 2010 before a panel of experts. The CEO Kinoti Gituma responded to the news “60 now fighting for 10-20 spots. Our odds just increased from 0.08% to a 16%-33%. The battle may have been won but the war is not over as the team has to hunker down and push the pedal to the metal to ensure ultimate success by securing full funding for our project in Kenya.” Similar sentiments were expressed by the head of the Nairobi team Martha Keega who exclaimed “This is where it gets interesting we are overjoyed but we have to exercise caution and not let the first phase victory get to our heads” KinConsult is a new-age digital media agency capable of delivering solutions and services that enable corporations and institutions to connect, transform and extend their businesses using new electronic media through the creation, development and delivery of leading-edge solutions and services by leveraging proven marketing tools that help customers, suppliers and partners manage their needs more efficiently and effectively.
