The Doctrine of Christ 2
    - The Work of Christ
Introduction
Christianity is a faith based on who Jesus Christ
is and what he did. In this lesson, we shall
consider the two most important works of
Christ:
  1. The death of Jesus Christ
  2. The resurrection of Jesus Christ

                            central.
1. The Death of Jesus Christ
Christ’s Death
Mark 10:45 The atonement is at the
                         very core of Christ’s work.
For even the Son of To atone is to make

life as a ransom for the penalty for sin. It was
                         the central aspect of his
many.
                         work, his primary reason
                         for coming to earth.
Christ’s Death
      Jesus Christ died
         in our place
         for our sins
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look,
the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’ (John
1:29).
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one
died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those
who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who
died for them and was raised again ( 2 Cor. 5:14-15).
For there is one God and
one mediator between God
and men, the man Christ
Jesus, who gave himself as a
ransom for all men—the
testimony given in its
proper time (1 Tim. 2:5-6).
Christ’s Death
The death of Christ means our deepest needs:

 a) We are under the wrath of God. As propitiation,
his death meets our need for forgiveness.

 b) We are separated from God. As reconciliation, his
death meets our need for friendship with God.

 c) We are in bondage to sin. As redemption, his
death meets our need for freedom from bondage.

of Christ. • ‘whom you crucified but
                             whom God raised from the
                             dead,’ (Acts 4:2).
Christ’s Resurrection
Why is the resurrection of Christ so central to
the message of the gospel? Three reasons:
  1. Verification of deity
  2. Vindication of deliverance
  3. Victory over death
The resurrection served as a

VERIFICATION OF DEITY
Christ’s Resurrection
Verification of Deity
Jesus Christ claimed to be
the Son of God and the
Saviour of men. The

Jesus is who he claimed to
be.

VINDICATION OF DELIVERANCE

The idea in Romans 4:25 is that Jesus died because we are sinners, and rose
because he had paid for our sins. His death had accomplished its objective;
it had atoned for our sin.
The resurrection served as a

VICTORY OVER DEATH
Christ’s Resurrection
Victory over Death
Christ’s victory over death
ensures our victory over
death. He has conquered
death and we share in his
victory. We now have
nothing to fear from
death.
Christ’s Resurrection
Victory over Death 1 Corinthians 15:20-22
Christ’s victory over death But Christ has indeed been

                              all will be made alive.
Christ’s Resurrection
Victory over Death Hebrews 2:14-15
Christ’s victory over death Since the children have flesh
ensures our victory over and blood, he too shared in
their humanity so that by his

nothing to fear from free those who all their lives

                              fear of death.
Christ’s Resurrection
Jesus’s victory over death also has present significance
for us. The resurrection power of Christ, that is, the
power of God by which he raised Jesus from the dead,
is already at work in us. Death is intimately connected
with Satan, sin and sickness; in fact, it is the end
product of their work. Since Christ has disarmed Satan
and delivered us from his dominion and since he is
setting us free not only from the pollution of sin but
also from the power of sin, his life giving power is
already at work in us.
Romans 8:11
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from
the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ
from the dead will also give life to your mortal
bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
Conclusion
Conclusion
1. Jesus Christ died in our place to pay the
penalty for our sins. His death meets our
   need for forgiveness, friendship, and
   freedom.
2. Jesus Christ rose from the dead when he had
atoned for our sins. His resurrection proved
his deity, validated the atonement, and
   conquered death.

  • 9. The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’ (John 1:29).
  • 10. For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again ( 2 Cor. 5:14-15).
  • 11. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time (1 Tim. 2:5-6).
  • 12. Christ’s Death The death of Christ means our deepest needs: a) We are under the wrath of God. As propitiation, his death meets our need for forgiveness. b) We are separated from God. As reconciliation, his death meets our need for friendship with God. c) We are in bondage to sin. As redemption, his death meets our need for freedom from bondage.

  • 19. Christ’s Resurrection Why is the resurrection of Christ so central to the message of the gospel? Three reasons: 1. Verification of deity 2. Vindication of deliverance 3. Victory over death
  • 20. The resurrection served as a VERIFICATION OF DEITY
  • 21. Christ’s Resurrection Verification of Deity Jesus Christ claimed to be the Son of God and the Saviour of men. The resurrection proves that Jesus is who he claimed to be.
  • 22. Christ’s Resurrection Verification of Deity Romans 1:4 Jesus Christ claimed to be … and who through the the Son of God and the Spirit of holiness was Saviour of men. The idea in Romans 4:25 is that Jesus died because we are sinners, and rose because he had paid for our sins. His death had accomplished its objective; it had atoned for our sin.
  • 27. The resurrection served as a VICTORY OVER DEATH
  • 28. Christ’s Resurrection Victory over Death Christ’s victory over death ensures our victory over death. He has conquered death and we share in his victory. We now have nothing to fear from death.
  • 29. Christ’s Resurrection Victory over Death 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 Christ’s victory over death But Christ has indeed been ensures our victory over raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have death. He has conquered fallen asleep. For since death death and we share in his came through a man, the victory. We now have resurrection of the dead nothing to fear from comes also through a man. • 31. Christ’s Resurrection Jesus’s victory over death also has present significance for us. The resurrection power of Christ, that is, the power of God by which he raised Jesus from the dead, is already at work in us. Death is intimately connected with Satan, sin and sickness; in fact, it is the end product of their work. Since Christ has disarmed Satan and delivered us from his dominion and since he is setting us free not only from the pollution of sin but also from the power of sin, his life giving power is already at work in us.
  • 32. Romans 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
  • 34. Conclusion 1. Jesus Christ died in our place to pay the penalty for our sins. His death meets our need for forgiveness, friendship, and freedom. 2. Jesus Christ rose from the dead when he had atoned for our sins. His resurrection proved his deity, validated the atonement, and conquered death.
