    6. 6. Why a counselor...I like my job and I like the I want everyone to realizecontent I teach, but I LOVE their potential regardless ofmy students!! their past and where they come fromI want to help people I want to help kids learn howI think education is to make choices, based onimportant their feelings, and think about consequences BEFOREI believe in all kids, and what their actionsis best for them.
    7. 7. PART IICounseling, Theory, & Me...
    8. 8. Theory closest to my beliefs...Cognitive Behavior Therapy
    9. 9. Utilizing different theories in school... counseling...Adlerian- I think this theory can give counselors incite to understanding “why kids are the way theyare.” (Experiences, birth order, life stages etc)Cognitive Behavior Therapy- Helping kids understand that actions have consequences, andlearn to deal with situations in an appropriate way. Situations-> Thoughts-> Feelings-> ActionsPerson Centered- I believe this approach is especially effective for the client to be able to utilize thetherapy tools even when he/she is on his own. It is important for the client to apply the skills learnedwith the therapist to problem solve issues in every day life.So many times kids have potential; it is thechoices they make and what they decide to do with their potential that sometimes seems to get in theway. It seems that PTC can give kids the tools to manage and cope with their current and futureproblems, especially when they are out of school and on their own.Solution-focused- Promotes cooperative, change-focused relationships by: (a) validating clients’struggles and perceptions; (b) encouraging their active involvement and collaboration; (c) conveying hopein their ability to change; (d) commenting on any positive changes no matter how small; (e) giving themcredit for improvements; (f) focusing on future solutions instead of past problems; and (g) obtaining theirfeedback and adjusting services accordingly.

    12. 12. My focus...In the pass three years, I have discovered that mytrue interest and drive to be a counselor is to ser vediverse and at risk kids. I think that home lifeimpacts a kids. Even if no one else does, I want to bethe one to encourage them to make something ofthemselves and be productive citizens.
