6. Kindergarten technology In kindergarten, we did not use computers often, but there was a school computer lab for the older students. Overhead projectors were used to show images. The television set and VCR allowed us to watch films in class.
7. High school technology Computers were used to type out papers and other homework assignments, and for research purposes. Some teachers, not all, used PowerPoint presentations when lecturing. Overhead projectors were still used to show images, and other documents. VCRs and DVD players were used to show educational films.
8. College technology PowerPoint's are used much more frequently. Document cameras are used in a few lecture halls, and overhead projectors in smaller classrooms. Online websites, such as WebCT, Laulima, and Ning are used for online discussions, and to access classroom resources online. Image from http://tippie.uiowa.edu/stsg/images/wolfvision.jpg
9. A vivid technology learning experience In 5th and 6th grade, students could borrow Alphasmarts, portable word processing machines. Kidpix, an Apple program, was the first computer program I remember using. WebCT was used for my first online class, and it provided a different learning experience. Very similar to Laulima. 10. A technology I want to use in my classroom I would love to be able to use webcams in order to have students interact with and learn more about the cultures and histories of other students from across the globe. A site similar to Laulima where students can discuss course materials and interact with each other.
11. My vision of the classroom of the future Desks will have built in touch screens, and students will be able to follow along on PowerPoint slides and take notes that they can save and access at the end of class. Books will be in eBook form, and students will also be able to access them from their desks. Image from http://www.apple.com/ipad/design/
12. A challenge for teaching Students may gain a strong dependency on: using things like spell check and they won’t actually learn how to do things on their own. Using only internet sources, and not books or other sources for information. New technology won’t be accessible to all students outside of the classroom.
