2. What is The STELLAR Project? A 1:1 laptop pilot initiative at J.R. Ingram Elementary in which a classroom of 4th graders will be given access to netbook laptops while in school and at home.
3. Goals of the STELLAR Project TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO CREATE, CONNECT, AND COLLABORATE Today's students are digital natives who learn by doing, creating, and collaborating with others. The use of on demand laptops will allow our students to be using these high level skills continually, at school and at home.
4. Goals of the STELLAR Project TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD Many of our students do not have the opportunity to use the tools of technology once they leave school. This creates an unnecessary divide between those students who are able to go home and gain further 21st century skills and those who do not have this access. The STELLAR Project aims to provide these 24/7 opportunities to all children!
5. Goals of the STELLAR Project TO BECOME A PAPERLESS CLASSROOM Not so much for the goal of saving paper (although that is an added plus), but for saving our children's learning time from monotonous and non-meaningful tasks.
6. Goals of the STELLAR Project TO CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE OF RELEVANT LEARNING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY Today’s students are extremely social, create understanding differently, and are very comfortable using computers for learning.
7. Goals of the STELLAR Project TO REMOVE THE "WALLS" OF THE CLASSROOM; TO CREATE TRANSPARENCY FOR AND COLLABORATION WITH PARENTS AND THE COMMUNITY The STELLAR Project aims at being proactive in demonstrating to the community other means of assessing our students; through the transparency of wikis, blogs, podcasts, and other uses of Web 2.0 tools.
