OBJECTIVE
I seek to teach in an environment where I can joyfully introduce the elementary learner to the
exciting world of the arts, both historically and modern, to show how art is integrated into every
aspect of our lives, cross-curricular and beyond; help the middle school learner develop a
greater appreciation of art while satiating their need to experiment with and develop art skills
that can be transferred in and beyond the art studio; or use my unique mentoring skills and
substantial knowledge of art to help the older learner realize their greatest potential in the art
studio in preparation for their future. I am passionate about the role visual arts plays in the
education and development of young minds for I firmly believe there is much to be learned and
cultivated in a developing mind that engages with visual media—hands on projects as well as
intellectual and aesthetic inquiry.
While I’m an expert/professional in the field of ceramics. I have a full-range and command of
knowledge and experience with a broad variety of art media and techniques. I consider myself
a student-directed, project-based educator. I view my role as being a facilitator, coach, and
mentor in the field of art. I believe learning about art can be for art itself alone, but more-so I
believe the participation and learning through the arts gives services to all other subjects and
endeavors, in school and beyond. I've developed a unique and natural ability to seize
serendipitous and dynamic learning moments that tap into the immediate interests of my
students, easily tying into relevant learning opportunities that coincide across the curriculum.
My approach to teaching art makes learning content and concepts relevant and natural.
