                       To:
                       “Emergent Process”

                                   Because CAS exhibit Synergy
                                   and Self-Organization, and the

                                             Emergent

emergence
                                                         emergent intent

Emergence refers to what arises out of the depth of complex
interactions – more specifically the Agents, Strategies and
Artifacts interacting in the depths of the system with the
Externalities and Latent-Potential to create a new Higher
       Order System.

When adjustments are made after each emergent possibility
arises, what we see after the second or third emergence is a
development that would have been absolutely inconceivable
from the perspective of our initial understanding.

                                     form emergent
The complex adaptive system as a
                                 “field of intent” becomes richer,
                                fuller, denser, and more integrated

                                                    It will ultimately achieve
                             dynamic/punctuated equilibria

       When the system is “vesselled”
                               in a specific context…
Form will begin to emerge spontaneously and
       naturally
This form will be highly integrated, differentiated,

FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPLEX-
       ADAPTIVE SYSTEMS to death.
          Equilibrium is a precursor

The creative “sweet spot” for a system is at the
                  edge of chaos.

At the edge of chaos systems self-organize and
                  new forms emerge.

Complex systems cannot be forced along a
                  linear path.

EXPERIENCING COMPEX-ADAPTIVE
SYSTEMScomplexity transforming into higher level simplicity.
          Low level

High degrees of freedom resulting in high degrees of “self-
                  organization.”

Disorder, destabilization and the movement away from equilibrium
as a prerequisite to the emergence of higher order form.

                  Small changes having large effects
Having a design and a process plunge into chaos only to
experience the organizations “core identity” interacting with
the environment to produce a stunning new form of order.

Experiencing how positive feedback on a “fluctuation”
compounded through several iterations can produce an
outcome that could not even have been imagined at the outset.

THE STRANGE
                   ATTRACTOR

The system has infinite possibilities, wandering wherever
it pleases, sampling new configurations of itself. But its
wandering and experiments respect a boundary.

THE BUTTERFLY
                       EFFECT

       A small fluctuation may
       start an entirely new
       evolution that will
       drastically change the
       whole behavior of the
       macroscopic system

SEEDS AND
                GERMS
The “germ” is the point where the
       amplification takes place.
A germ is the point from
       which the creative
       seed flowers.

       FEEDBACK

being fed back on itself -A process of “evolving feedback”-
elaborate levels of differentiation and scaling are created

We will be your Guide through the
                             landscape of Emergent Process.

       What’s the payoff….
Running an Emergent Process will move the
system to it’s highest adaptive capability.
