Great Presentation Joanne! The fifth rule - constantly evolve - is in my opinion one that many people will overlook. Since the whole online social media shift in communication is relatively new - little to no changes have been needed to many professional profiles. However, as time goes on - changes will take place and it will become more and more important for those who are currently engaged in social media to adapt to whatever is about to come next. To be successful in business you have to accept the fact that changes are going to take place day after day. It will be extremely important for professionals to recognize these changes and ultimately accept them for what they are; instead of hoping they will just go away. If a new social media tool pops up and all of the Millennials are signing up and you decide to stay away cause you don’t want to hang with the kids - when the kids hit their 20’s and 30’s - you’ll look nothing more than a wedding crasher who doesn’t know how to dance their dance. Once again - Great presentation Joanne! I enjoyed it..

5 rules - Presentation Transcript

  1. 5 rules.
for you to consider when building your professional profile.
  2. rule number 1:
  3. be consistent.
  4. be consistent.
have one personality/message in lots of different places, not a different personality/message in each place.
  5. why?
  6. why?
because the world is small and the people you meet in one place, you will also meet in another place.
  7. rule number 2:
  8. be authentic.
  9. be authentic.
your profile is about being who you are.
  10. why?
  11. why?
because people are smart- if you put on a persona to influence or impress others you will get caught out.
  12. rule number 3:
  13. understand value exchange.
  14. understand value exchange.
if you want something from somebody, there needs to be some kind of value exchange in order for you to get it.
  15. why?
  16. why?
because we are human and that is human nature.
  17. rule number 4:
  18. improve on your transferrable skills.
  19. improve on your transferrable skills.
find ways to increase generic 101 skills e.g. in marketing, sales, account management, negotiation, computers etc
  20. why?
  21. why?
because we live in a time where people change careers often, contemporary recruitment strategies will focus more and more on transferrable skills and less on years of experience.
  22. rule number 5:
  23. constantly evolve.
  24. constantly evolve.
be flexible, have an open mind, make a commitment to continually improve, develop and progress.
  25. why?
  26. why?
because the world changes quickly and if you stay the same people will loose interest.
