2. What is HvZ?
Humans vs. Zombies (also called HvZ/HvZT for short) is
a live-action game predominately played at college campuses
where players begin as Humans and try to survive in a story
where Zombies have begun to rise from the dead. The
ultimate goal of the game is for either all Humans to be
turned into Zombies, or for the humans to survive a set
amount of time. Humans can defend themselves using any
item that is approved by a moderator and thereby deemed
safe and appropriate, but the most common equipment
includes balled up socks, marshmallows, and foam dart guns.
With these items, the goal is to hit a Zombie player with a
thrown or launched item, thus stunning the Zombie player;
Zombies are unarmed and must tag the Humans to gain a kill.
3. So…what should I expect?
• When you get there, find the registration
table. (HINT: I’ll be there!)
• You will be asked to sign a safety contract
and liability waiver. This is for everyone’s
safety.
• We’ll have a brief discussion before gameplay
starts.
• All zombies will be identified by a bandana.
4. What to Expect, Continued
• There will be 3-4 original zombies. Humans can
be turned by being tagged by the zombies.
When a human is turned, both the human and
the zombie need to return to the registration
table so the kill can be logged.
• Humans will have clean, rolled-up pairs of
socks. Please bring your own. We also WILL be
using Nerf guns. When hit with these, zombies
will be out of the game for five minutes.
5. What to Expect, Continued
• Throughout the event, there will be some missions.
Completion will help your group, so they’re pretty
important. Also, they’ll keep things moving.
• While it may be tempting to take the game all over
campus, I’m going to ask that everyone stays in the
area of the Falcon Center Lawn. This way moderators
can keep an eye on everything and things will be
relatively contained.
6. What to Expect - Disqualification
• We’re doing this to have fun, not hurt one another. If you have
an accident, that’s alright. However, if you are repeatedly
hurting other players and it seems to be intentional, you WILL
be disqualified.
• There will be safe zones which will we point out the game. It is
important to respect these. If you neglect to do so and it
keeps happening, you WILL be disqualified.
• If people aren’t playing, that’s their choice. Accidents will
happen. If you target non-players though, you WILL be
disqualified.
7. A Message from humansvszombies.org
• Don’t be a jerk. Everyone plays Humans vs.
Zombies to have fun, and the rules of HvZ only
exist because we agree they do. That’s why the
most important rule of Humans vs. Zombies is
to treat your fellow players with respect, and
gracefully accept when you have been tagged or
stunned.
