1. THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - SWEATER

2. GENRE
 The genre for Sweater Weather by The
Neighbourhood is generally seen as Indie/ Pop and
Alternative Rock, not collectively.
 These genres can be very hard to distinguish within
the song, however there a subtle hints to the type of
genre if you listen closely. The drum beat is simple
and continues the same all of the way through, yet
still has a rock feel to it. Whereas, the lyrics are
very Indie/ Pop style and are definitely not rock.

3. STYLE (MUSIC VIDEO)
 The music video is unique and shot in greyscale to
match their house-style of their album that this
single was released on.
 The video itself has nothing to do with what the
lyrics are saying, it showcases a few young men in
a car smoking and having a good time together.
 The type of video is generally associated with the
Indie genre because it is different to the ‘Popular’
style of music and the videos that go with them.

4. EDITING TECHNIQUES (MUSIC VIDEO)
 The music video has a number of different types of
camera shots used throughout. Including close-ups,
extreme close-ups, high angle, low angle, panning
and tracking shots. One example of a shot is the
panning/ tracking shots of the car nearer the
beginning of the video.

5. EDITING TECHNIQUES + (MUSIC VIDEO)
 In terms of the alteration of shots the video
generally has standard cut shots most of the way
through, many of which change with the beat of the
drums from the tune.
 Part way through the song they have placed a
faded image of a house above the actual video, it
then slowly zooms out to showcase another scene
within the video. Further along the picture then gets
turned upside down with pictures of palm trees
dissolved into the same image. This helps to create
atmosphere and emotion.

6. EFFECTIVENESS(MUSIC VIDEO)
 The music video as a whole is very well done, it has aspects
of different stories and images that make it a unique video to
attempt. It has no relation to the lyrics, yet it seemingly fits well
with the piece.
 The greyscale of the video also builds on the effectiveness of
the song and video collectively, this is hard to put my finger on
but it compliments the piece very well and without it the video
wouldn't be as effective.

7. RELEVANT CHARACTERS &
COSTUMES(MUSIC VIDEO)
 There are no characters identified within the video that are
significant. However, I believe that the young men in the car
wearing leather jackets smoking are significant. This is
because it showcases the freedom of the younger generation
either now or in the 1960-70s when leather jackets were the
primary fashion e.g. Rockers. It further showcases the
rebellious teenagers of then and now doing what they want to
so they can enjoy life together.
