How did you use new
media technologies in the
construction and research,
planning and evaluation
stages?
2. CONSTRUCTION
The main website we used for out fonts and typeface’s was www.Dafont.com
which is a website that has a variety of different styles of font which you can
freely download and use within your trailer or other media products. We
used this website for our titles and idents as the ones from Final Cut and
Photoshop didn’t have the right look we were going for.
We used Photoshop to edit the poster and magazine cover for our
promotional package. The program allowed us to copy and paste in images
and other things like text and backgrounds and to arrange and edit them in
the style we wanted for our final products. For our teaser trailer we used
Final Cut Pro. This program was also very helpful as we could import all the
things that we had already made into it and use them in our trailer. Final Cut
also let me collect clips from the internet and embed them into our teaser,
helping to create the idents. Final cut was easy to use once we got used to
all the buttons and it really allowed us to play around with our shots to make
3. COMPUTER EQUIPMENT
Everything we did was on a mac computer as it had all the programs and
resources we needed to complete are 3 projects.
The filming equipment we used included a DSLR camera to film all of the shot
in the teaser tailer. Using it both in and outside we could really focus on what
we needed to do to make the shot look its best. We used most of the feature
e.g. Zoom, focus etc and managed to get a wide verity of shots and angles
that looked really good when uploaded on to the mac. The only bad thing
about the camera was that it was hard to tell if the shots were in focus or not
when we had another piece of camera equipment attached to the view hole
which helped us view close up from a far distance. Because of this some of
our good shots came out blurry and we couldn’t use them.
We also used the studio which was lent to us for a certain amount of time so
we could get all the inside shots. They are professional spotlights which
helped illuminate the features of the actors in front of the camera, creating a
polished and professional look when we put them together on Final Cut Pro.
4. RESEARCH
Websites we used included Google, IMDB and Pearl and Dean Demographics
to do all of or film research. With these websites we were able to find out all
of the information we needed to finish all the tasks and find out everything
we needed to complete out products. The website helped us find out about
how films were distributed, marketed and the general conventions of our
films genre. We managed to collect all the information by swapping it all
through Hotmail/Gmail and college emails so we could all complete tasks
easily together.
During this time we have had to make multiple Word and PowerPoint
documents for our blogs and to write down information we find out. To do
this we had to use the Microsoft software that was available on the macs.
This helped out promotional package research as we could clearly document
information that would help us in the production stage.
We also used iPad’s to film the feedback and primary research we got from
fellow students. The iPad’s had a app which would allow to edit those clips
5. PLANNING
With all the research we had we could easily take inspiration from the
films that we had looked up and researched. We had a checklist of
what we wanted/needed to include in each product and had
memories all the conventions that were needed to make it a true
zombie teaser trailer, magazine and poster.
For the planning we used all the Microsoft software and made a small
animatic on Final Cut Pro. For this we had to take pictures using the
webcam on the mac computers of our story bored that we had drawn
out. Annoyingly they had all flipped because of the camera and we
had to re-flip them all which was harder than it sounds when none of
the members in your group are familiar with macs.
6. EVALUATION
For the evaluation questions I have used multiple webites including
Giflike.com, Prezi, Slideshare, Emaze and Soundconverter.com. These
websites were a massive help as by using them I could display all my
research and work in a well presented and effective ways. They also help you
see my progress throughout the process and that I can lay out all my
thoughts into one presentation.
For the first evaluation question and the forth evaluation question I used
slideshare. I did this because I enjoy making powerpoint and I find them a
fun way to convey information over to another person.
The second question was made by Prezi. I love using prezi because it has
cool templates for the information to go in and it is easy to understand.
The third evaluation question was made in Emaze. Emaze is a cool website
that lets you share information in ways that don’t make it boring and lets
you add colour and effects into your powerpoint.
