MechTools is a "two part" software utility to fully automate the creation, distribution and emailing of all files necessary to manufacture mechanical engineering components designed on 3d C.A.D software such as AutoDesk Inventor or Solidworks.
The first part works seamlessly inside your existing C.A.D software. No user intervention is required!!!
The second part is a "stand-alone" utility that automatically prints every drawing associated with an assembly, or sub-assembly, and "Pre-Stamps" every drawing with the "Job Number", "Customer Name" & "Total Required Quantity". It also automatically creates, and sends, emails to your suppliers to obtain quotations for all "Bought-Out" items. In the case of "Laser-Cut", "Flame-Cut" or "Water Jet" profiles, a copy of the drawing is also printed and "Pre-Stamped" with the "Job Number", "Customer Name" & "Total Required Quantity" as well as "Material Type", "Material Thickness" and whether or not "Flash Grinding" is required.

2. MechTools For AutoDesk Inventor
• The “first part” of MechTools works seamlessly inside AutoDesk Inventor. No user intervention
is required! The user will only be aware of MechTools existence if an error occurs. For example,
If a wrong material thickness is specified for a “Laser Cut”, “Flame Cut” , “Water Jet” or “Wire
Erosion” profile.
• AutoDesk Inventor automatically creates the necessary files that will be used by the “second part”
of MechTools every time the user presses the “Save” button.
• These include:-
• Assemblies or Sub-Assemblies [.iam]
• A “Bill of Materials” file is automatically created, in the form of an ASCII text file, and stored in a
network folder. If the assembly is updated, the “Bill of Materials” is also updated.
• Part Files [.ipt]
• In the case of “Laser Cut”, “Flame Cut” , “Water Jet” or “Wire Erosion” profiles, an AutoCAD “dwg”
file is automatically created and saved in a network folder, again with no user intervention. If the
part is updated, the AutoCAD “dwg” file is also updated. Because the Inventor part file is always
drawn full size [Scale 1:1] there is no need to dimension a profile that has to be manufactured, as
the drawing is sent electronically, saving you both time and money!

• Drawing Files [.idw]
• An exact, Adobe “pdf”, copy of the drawing is automatically created and stored in a network folder.
If the drawing is updated, the pdf file is also updated.

• The “second part” of MechTools is a “stand alone” utility that does the following....
• Automatically prints every drawing, for internal use, associated with an assembly or sub-assembly and
pre-stamps every drawing with the following information:-
– Job Number
– Customers Name
– Total Required Quantity
• Automatically creates, and sends, Emails to your suppliers to obtain quotations, for all “bought out” items.
– In the case of “Laser Cut”, “Flame Cut”, Water Jet” or “Wire Erosion” profiles, a copy of the drawing
is also printed, for internal use (Identification), and pre-stamped with the following information:-
– Job Number
– Customers Name
– Total Required Quantity
– Material Type
– Material Thickness
– In the case of Flame Cut profiles, if flash grinding is required
– No confidential data is sent within the Email or any attached files!

11. MechTools Additional Features
• MechTools stores the Assembly or Sub-Assembly’s “job history” so that if
you need to re-print a particular drawing, then you can either “View” or
Re-Print the drawing.

• In both cases, the drawing is stamped with the relevant information as
detailed above.
• In the case of “Laser Cut”, “Flame Cut”, Water Jet” or “Wire Erosion”
profiles MechTools also calculates the total length of all the “Lines”, “Arcs”
and “Circles”, in the part, so that an accurate quotation can be carried out
by your suppliers. They use the total length to calculate the cutting times
involved. Also, the material thickness is checked to ensure that it
conforms to a standard thickness that is readily available. Any hole
feature that is smaller than the material thickness is ignored.
• All Emails that are sent to suppliers are copied into a network folder so
that they can be easily traced, if required.
