Complexity thoughts

Singing sounds from trees and the movement of tree branches inspired few thoughts on complexity. The video embed makes easier to follow up on those thoughts. Using trees with leaves inside balls give rise to a complex system in which many pendulums are moving and yet we may hear sounds with rhythm and see neighboring leaves getting away from each other as they take different trajectories. The presentation offers a new setup idea for conducting brainstorming sessions, in emulation of trees.

  2. 2. The idea of this presentation sprang up in my mind while standing nearby trees, which were dancing and singing with the wind
  3. 3. Idea are like trees they branch out and grow and suddenly they start dancing and whistling with the storms of brainstorming

  5. 5. Can we predict where the wind shall send the branches? Stop the video and try to guess where a selected branch will move to
  6. 6. Even for a second in the future this forecast will be difficult to prove correct
  7. 7. Now, listen to the rhythm of the singing trees Can you predict the next sound
  8. 8. Again, this prediction might be difficult even though you may notice some repeating pattern in the music.
  9. 9. A sound wave is the pattern of disturbance caused by the movement of energy traveling through a medium
  10. 10. As trees have fractal repeating patterns, so are sounds coming out of trees The orderly trees make sounds of repeating patterns Sound patterns coming out of the chaotic wind
  11. 11. We talk about the Butterfly Effect How about The Wind Effect?
  12. 12. A butterfly effect starts when a butterfly flips its wings A tree has many “wings” I mean branches
  13. 13. When trees flip their branches they whistle as well leading to maximized “Butterfly Effect”
  14. 14. Not only that as trees have built-in pendulums in their leaves’ structure Stalk (Rebiola) Leaf mass acting as ball
  15. 15. This way trees are composed of great number of pendulums moving with the wind together Out of their chaotic movements comes musical sounds
  16. 16. It is amazing how these “tree pendulums” figure out to “shout” with certain patterns
  17. 17. I wonder if this leads to a valid suggestion!
  18. 18. Why not hold brainstorming sessions in a tree-format structure so that “ideas patterns” may appear. A tree rippling effect emerges influencing leaf and tree surrounding it We need brainstorming sessions with rippling effects
  19. 19. Adjacent leaves go in different trajectories The wind ensures that two adjacent leaves in a complex system will eventually end up in very different positions after some time has elapsed. Watch the video again and see how true this is
  20. 20. A fractal is a never-ending pattern. Fractals are infinitely complex patterns that are self-similar across different scales. Do you feel the music coming from the trees in the video are ending? This is complexity in action

  23. 23. The drops of water magnifies the leaf and we discover that its structure is repeating A tree leaf teaches us that we live in infinity
  24. 24. So are the lessons from trees We may plant seeds of hate for a job, to give one example
  25. 25. So are the lessons from trees The seed grows into a tree with infinite possibilities
  26. 26. Always plant the seeds of gratitude and spread around the music of joy
