2. LETTER FROM THE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Here we are once again at THE fall fashion event of the
year…Phoenix Fashion Week at Talking Stick Resort. Each
and every season I get so excited to share our fast growing
brand with the 1,000’s of fashionistas attending our week
long calendar of Fashion, Education and Humanity. But,
like clockwork each and every season…we also get so many
questions like, why do we do this, how do we do this, and
what is our end goal? Well…
Our mission is to Push Arizona Fashion Forward! But, what
exactly does that mean? It means that since the beginning,
Team Phoenix Fashion Week set the bar high within the
Arizona fashion industry and we have been raising that
same bar every season since 2008. We began as a one-day
celebration that has grown into a sustainable year-round
fashion business producing (12) different fashion events in
(12) different locations around Arizona.
How Did We Do It? We clearly defined who we were and
who we were not. We were definitely about the ‘Business
of Fashion’ first and foremost. We definitely were not going
to listen to the naysayers. We are clearly about helping
emerging designers build sustainable and successful fashion
brands. We clearly were never going to give up. We were
100% about improving on our mistakes and we were never
afraid to try again. In other words, our common sense
approach and relentless
work ethic forged our way
to becoming the leading
fashion industry event in
the Southwest.
Your Best or Nothing!
Brand partner Mercedes
Benz inspired this kind of thinking amongst our team. It is true,
when you really know who you are and when you give your
best effort day in and day out in the pursuit of your goals, you
naturally push everything and everyone around you forward.
This is the ‘secret to our sauce.’
That mindset and high bar expectation is why we believe we
have (7 Arizona brands) of the (13) emerging designers
competing for ‘2014 Designer of the Year’ compared to only
(2) Arizona based designers last year. The tide is turning,
Arizona is rapidly moving fashion forward.
So, where does that leave us? It leaves us with an amazing and
accomplished team supported by strong global partners that
include Schumacher European LTD. Mercedes Benz, Boots
USA, TONI&GUY, Walgreens, UBER, OfficeMax, FIDM, just
to name a few. Not bad for a brand that began as a one-day
celebration. Come join us!

Presented by Bad Water Brewing, the Accessory

accessory designers again this year to design a unique
accessory that not only embodies the Bad Water
Brewing brand, but also the tightly knit, creative craft
beer community. After much anticipation, Adriana
Soto of Verbena Jewelry was named the challenge

“I find myself extremely honored to collaborate with
Phoenix Fashion Week and the Bad Water Brewing
team in the Accessory Designer Challenge. My
inspiration came from the style and originality of
Bad Water. They have something different that truly
makes them unique among other beers, and this is why
I created an accessory that can stand on its own and

13. FEATURED DESIGNERS
ROCKY GATHERCOLE ALBERT ANDRADA ARIS PICO YEN
Each year, Phoenix Fashion Week
selects a diverse list of established
fashion brands from around the globe
to showcase their latest collections
here in the desert.
After last year’s memorable 30-piece
finale show by celebrity designer
Rocky Gathercole, Phoenix Fashion
Week plans to push the fashion
envelope one step further with not
one, but four designers.
“Each year at Phoenix Fashion
Week, we push to raise the bar of
collections, from ready to wear to
couture. It speaks volumes about our
production quality, and our unique
cross-section of media, buyers and
fashionistas that collectively help to
push Arizona fashion forward. Quite
simply, PHXFW is becoming a mecca
for global fashion brands,” said Brian
Hill, Executive Director of Phoenix
Fashion Week.
These designers add to a strong lineup
of established collections at Phoenix
Fashion Week at Talking Stick Resort and
make their dramatic debuts, with local
fashionistas, tastemakers and attendees
alike abuzz with anticipation.
Albert Andrada: This designer defines
his collections as ‘cultured couture
eveningwear’ and is a true visionary
in the fashion industry. He recently
partnered with well-known brand Ethan
Allen to design luxury furnishings and
has also dressed numerous celebrities on
the red carpet, including Paris Hilton’s
stunning white gown for The Grammy’s.
Albert Andrada’s collection will debut at
Phoenix Fashion Week at Talking Stick
Resort on Thursday, October 2nd.
Aris Pico: Known for futuristic feminine
fashions, Aris Pico is a newer name to the
global fashion industry, but has already
made a memorable first impression for
his brand in the Philippines, debuting
his S/S 2013 collection at Philippine
Fashion Week to rave reviews. Don’t
miss his collection as a part of two
impressive finale designers closing out
Friday, October 3rd of Phoenix Fashion
Week at Talking Stick Resort.
Yen: Elite luxury couture fashions
perfectly describes the sheer artistry
of Yen’s designs. He recently showed
his collection at London Fashion Week
in 2014 and will bring his one-of-a-kind
garments to the Phoenix Fashion
Week at Talking Stick Resort runway on
Friday, October 3rd.
Rocky Gathercole: As Phoenix Fashion
Week’s memorable finale designer
in 2013 and a favorite of celebrities
including Katy Perry, he is returning for
another jaw-dropping collection that
gives the term ‘runway presentation’
an entirely new meaning. Watch his
designs close out another amazing year
on Saturday, October 4th.

Dress
Phoenix Fashion Week invited Arizona fashion designers to submit their
best little black dress sketches as a part of the 3rd Annual Little Black Dress
Challenge, presented by The Art Institute of Phoenix.
“The Art Institute of Phoenix is proud to sponsor this year’s Little Black Dress
Challenge. We are committed to fostering the development of a professional
fashion community that serves our students and the community at large by
supporting Phoenix Fashion Week,” said Katy Hansen, Fashion Program
Coordinator for The Art Institute of Phoenix.
The Little Black Dress Challenge Review Panel narrowed down the challenge’s
10 semi-finalists to the Top 5 finalists: Alejandra Insunsa, Angela Johnson,
Hannah Condie, Olga Medvedeva, and Safiya Chaney.
Fans and followers were encouraged to visit Phoenix Fashion Week’s Facebook
page, where they could view the top five little black dress sketches and vote for
their favorite sketch.
The winning sketches were produced by these talented finalists leading up
to fashion week, where all five will be on display in the Style Villa shopping
marketplace, powered by T-Mobile, for attendees to view. The Little Black
Dress Challenge winners will be officially announced live at Phoenix Fashion
Week at Talking Stick Resort in October, with The Art Institute of Phoenix

$1,000 FASHION DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP
PRESENTED BY:
Phoenix Fashion Week’s 4th Annual ‘Inspire Fashion’ T-shirt Design Contest, presented by Cabana
Modern Apartment Homes, received an impressive roster of design submissions from fashion
students around Arizona. Ultimately, the winner was chosen.
Phoenix Fashion Week and Cabana Modern
Apartment Homes are proud to award Mesa
Community College 2nd year Fashion Merchandising
student Anh Huynh-Nguyen as the winner of the
Inspire Fashion T-Shirt Design Contest!
“My inspiration was derived from seeing a tattoo that
said, ‘free as a bird’. The dress is meant to express the
idea that color is life and mixed with fashion, brings
freedom. I was lucky to see the flyer at my school only a few days
prior to the deadline. I never thought that I would be the winner
of Phoenix Fashion Week’s T-shirt Design Contest! I am very
honored,” said Huynh-Nguyen.
After the best-selling t-shirt design by last year’s winner, Emery
Guzman, Phoenix Fashion Week was elated to see what fresh ideas
Arizona’s talented crop of fashion students would bring to the table.
“What’s exciting about a student challenge like this is that the
designer is going to go through in real time the steps to take a design
from inception to market,” said Brian Hill, Executive Director of
Phoenix Fashion Week.
Anh’s winning sketch will be produced by Phoenix Fashion Week,
displayed and sold exclusively in the Style Villa Marketplace,
powered by T-Mobile October 2-4. As the ‘Inspire Fashion’ T-shirt
Design Contest winner, Anh will also be recognized at Phoenix
Fashion Week and will receive a $1,000 fashion scholarship to
further her education.
