1. How to Repair Small or Medium-Sized Holes in Your Drywall?
Drywall is the most commonly used material for interior walls and tough as it is, drywall can survive only limited
abuse. For instance, a door flung open with excessive force can cause a huge hole in the wall. This kind of
damage may look terrible, however they are quite easy to fix. Drywall damage can be repaired with minimal
equipment and in order to repair a small dent or a large hole in the drywall and conceal the same after the job
is done, one needs to follow the steps mentioned below.
Repairing a small-sized hole in the drywall:
Clean up the repair area by tidying up the ragged edges using a multi-purpose utility knife and push any
loose drywall chunks back into place. Once the repair area has been cleaned, you must smear a generous
amount of non-shrink joint compound and smooth it with the help of a putty knife. If you are using a regular
joint compound (mud), it is essential to spray the repair area with water before applying the same. The patched
area must then be left to dry thoroughly and completely before applying an additional coating of sand by using
drywall sandpaper. Lastly, cover any minor imperfections by using an very thin coating of the joint compound.
Repairing a medium-sized hole in the drywall:
Firstly, you need to outline the damaged drywall area with a pencil and then cut away the damaged area of
the drywall with the help of a suitable tool. After this, cut out a patch from a new piece of dry wall and keep in
mind that it should measure around three inches more than the size of the hole on all sides. Outline the actual
size of the drywall hole on the back of the drywall filler piece and get rid of any rock material from the back-
edge strips of the filler drywall piece. Place the filler piece over the hole before covering the patch with a joint
compound and smoothing it with a knife. Finally, sand the area and make it level using high-grit sandpaper and
apply any finishing touches if required.
Concealing the area:
One can conceal the repaired or patched area by using spray texture which is available is small spray cans at
a paint centre. You must test it on a scrap piece of paper before using and remember not to use it too close to
the repair area otherwise it may begin to look clumpy. Another option is to apply a coating of primer and paint
with the help of a paint-roller as paint brushes may leave behind brush marks.
