  • 3. <ul><li>In the video we just showed you it says </li></ul><ul><li>970 trillion kWh of energy is given off from the sun each day . </li></ul><ul><li>That’s enough energy to power the world every day for twelve years . </li></ul><ul><li>Solar energy is the process of retrieving the unlimited energy already provided from the sun. </li></ul>

  • 6. <ul><li>Solar power will never run out in any human’s life time ever. </li></ul><ul><li>It gives off zero pollutants/waste. </li></ul><ul><li>Most solar panels have 25 year manufacture’s warranties and they last extremely long. Some panels built in the 60’s are still producing energy. </li></ul><ul><li>Basically solar power is the most environmentally friendly, abundant, and has the most potential to grow. </li></ul>
  • 7. <ul><li>Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels capture the sun’s radiation using things called semiconductors. </li></ul><ul><li>Semiconductors capture the sun’s energy which causes the electrons in the semiconductor to flow freely.. </li></ul><ul><li>The most common semiconductor is silicon because of its special chemical properties. </li></ul><ul><li>Silicon (Si) is an element that is found in almost every rock, sand, clay, and soil. </li></ul>

  • 9. <ul><li>Thermal Solar energy isn&apos;t created from panels. </li></ul><ul><li>Thermal energy works by focusing the sun’s rays onto water. This can heat water which you could use at home or can create steam that turns a generator and creates energy. </li></ul><ul><li>Ex. (Solar Dish, Solar Power Tower, Parabolic Troughs) </li></ul>

  • 11. <ul><li>Solar power could heat your home, heat you water, dramatically reduce your utility bills, and provide you with electricity. </li></ul><ul><li>Solar power can also provide thousands of homes with electricity with factories called solar power plants. </li></ul><ul><li>Solar dishes follow the sun throughout the day for maximum efficiency. </li></ul>
  • 12. <ul><li>If you don’t believe that solar power has the potential to grow listen up. </li></ul><ul><li>Scientist in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have created a dye that you could put on solar panels that would increase the efficiency by 50% . </li></ul><ul><li>This dye can also be put on an average window to create solar energy as long as you have somewhere for the energy to go. </li></ul>
  • 13. <ul><li>Solar Power Plants use unused land (shown below) This is a picture of California&apos;s largest solar power plant in the Mojave Desert. </li></ul><ul><li>Provides 375,000 </li></ul><ul><li>homes power with </li></ul><ul><li>(of course) no </li></ul><ul><li>pollutants. </li></ul><ul><li>Some plants run </li></ul><ul><li>their own power! </li></ul>

  • 15. <ul><li>Because wind turbines are tall and metal they make a perfect conductor. The most damage to wind turbines is caused by lightning. </li></ul><ul><li>They take up loads of room and have appearances that most people find annoying. </li></ul><ul><li>When wind turbines reach a low speed they produce a annoying noise. </li></ul><ul><li>They also kill birds flying…good job!!! </li></ul>
  • 16. <ul><li>While clearing and removing algae deforestation can occurred and has occurred in less modernized countries. </li></ul><ul><li>Even though it claims to help the environment it still releases pollution. </li></ul><ul><li>Overall people question it to be cost effective . </li></ul>
  • 17. <ul><li>The problems with nuclear waste still puzzles scientist today. Not only can the power deform you but the waste has to be looked after for 10,000 years. </li></ul><ul><li>Nuclear power plants take up to 20 to 30 years to build. </li></ul><ul><li>Uranium supply will only last 30-60 years longer. </li></ul><ul><li>There is never a 100% chance of success and it would be catastrophic if failed. BOOM!!!!!!! </li></ul>
  • 18. <ul><li>To build a dam you have to flood who areas behind the dam. Ex. A dam being built in Quebec will flood an area as large as all of Switzerland! </li></ul><ul><li>The dam blocks the soil in the river causing changes in the surrounding ecosystem. Ex. Marshes in southwest America have been turned to nothing but barren land. The species that live off these plants then die off. </li></ul>
  • 19. <ul><li>Digging into the earth can cause tremors which destroy the area around it and break the pipes harvesting the power wasting massive money and time. </li></ul><ul><li>Geothermal energy is not available everywhere. In the U.S you can find geothermal power in only some of the western states, Alaska, and Hawaii. </li></ul>
  • 20. <ul><li>Solar panels don’t work at night. This is true but these can charge up generators. </li></ul><ul><li>Solar Panels cost a decent amount of money. The price is going down as they find cheaper ways to make the cells. </li></ul><ul><li>People also say there are problems with the cells </li></ul><ul><li>breaking easily but there </li></ul><ul><li>are cells with more strength </li></ul><ul><li>by using thicker glass </li></ul><ul><li>or screens. </li></ul><ul><li>The chart shows the </li></ul><ul><li>the amount of renewable </li></ul><ul><li>energy used in the year 2009 </li></ul>
