Singing is an expressive way of delivering your emotions and feelings. And if you are embarrassed with your way of singing try learning from the ones you hear. Observe them and learn from how they prepare themselves, do not duplicate and just be you.
2. You don't like the title of this article do you?
Maybe you agree with this, maybe you don't, but truth is
that somewhere deep inside you want to be able to sing.
Read on. Ill share with you a few things, but first let me tell
you a bit about me to address the ‘credibility’ factor.
3. So Why Is It That Westerners Just Cant
Sing?
Firstly, I will address the very broad and generalised
statement I have made. YES many westerners CAN in fact
sing, I have just found that the programming of the western
society to be a lead cause in the reason as to why people
cant.
4. In my life there were two types of musical influences that I grew up with.
There was the trained singers that I went to school with, and then there
were my neighbours who were Tongan. What I noticed about the trained
singers from school is that they understood the theory of singing and the
technique of it well. They practised with various exercises and were taught
about breathing techniques and how to move through their range with
comfort and ease. They were technically sound but to a soul like myself,
they just seemed to have no depth.
Then there was the islanders :) lol wow we had some fun times. Sitting in
the gutter with a guitar and some alcohol, singing covers of any and every
song imaginable with these fantastic harmonies that just seemed to come
out of nowhere. There was nothing technical about their style at all. It was
just fun and happiness which came out as a sound.
5. Looking back at these influences and experiences knowing
what I know now, I have uncovered the secrets of
singing with mastery and depth. I would like to share
these with you below
6. Let go of expectations
Stop giving a fuck! The western culture focuses so
much on IMAGE that when you try to sing, you
are thinking about how you sound. There is so
much focus on trying to create a sound and an
image of sorts that you are simply not being
you. When you let go of expectations and are ok
with yourself being raw and exposed, you will
allow the diamond of your souls voice to be
expressed.
7. Don't Try To Be Your Inspiration
For so long I got caught up with trying to sound like usher
or timberlake or music or MJ or whoever it was that I was
singing but I realised that it was their authentic voice that
made them who they are, so sounding just like them isn’t
going to make me a great singer, its going to make me a
great impersonator. Stop trying to impersonate. Use their
style and ability as a level that you can incorporate but
don’t try to duplicate it otherwise you fall into the trap of
trying to be someone else.
8. Express Yourself Freely
Energy is released from your every action. Singing is a
fantastic way to send out energy to the world. The type of
energy you send out will be based on the emotions of your
experience. Some of the best singers in the world send out
love, confidence and happiness when they sing. Some of
the worst send out deception, vanity and fear. Make the
choice to choose your emotions before you sing and allow
them to evolve as you sing as well
9. The most important thing I want to share is that the way
you sing is the way you live your life so just remember that
the two can learn a lot from each other
