Oracle Acquires Sun in $7.4Bn deal Challenge The Oracle Technology Network (OTN), Sun Developer Network (SDN), and BigAdmin have long been home to the world's largest Web communities for software developers and administrators, each servicing millions of users. With Oracle's acquisition of Sun Microsystems, these formerly independent web sites (covering hundreds of thousands of pages) needed to be merged into a single site, presenting a unified experience representative of the Oracle's new emphasis on seamless integration between hardware and software. Solution Vamosa's consultants performed a thorough analysis of the relevant Oracle and Sun web estates and conducted workshops with all of the relevant stakeholders to understand the concerns and goals of each group involved - content owners, designers, platform administrators, and marketing executives. This comprehensive approach, coupled with Vamosa's proven experience in migrations, allowed us to build an innovative, and highly efficient, solution. Vamosa's consultants developed a process to iteratively transform the distinct sites in parallel streams, ultimately interlacing them into a common structure. Results Vamosa completed this project, analyzing and consolidating hundreds of thousands of content items, in just over three months. As a result of this migration, Oracle gained the ability to manage all of this content within its own flagship Website (UCM platform), to decommission redundant third-party systems, achieve a leaner and more effective web operation with which to present its vision and finally to maximize its ROI on the Sun acquisition.
The Information Workplace (IW) team at this large pharmaceuticals firm began to evaluate their IT environment in 2007 to develop an understanding of the technologies, products, savings, benefits and risks associated with the IW approach. The aim was to provide improved performance to 100,000 people who rely on IT tools and software every day. As part of the project remit a comparison and evaluation of Lotus Notes and Microsoft was required to make key decisions about the Company’s future technology platform. In September 2008, the Corporate Executive Team gave their endorsement to pursue a proposal with Microsoft to take advantage of naturally embedded connections between Microsoft’s email, chat, messaging, collaboration, meeting and intranet tools. The company’s Intranet Portal team sought Vamosa’s extensive knowledge and expertise in Microsoft SharePoint to assist with the migration of 3000+ Intranet sites from the Plumtree portal into SharePoint, which was hosted in the Microsoft Online environment. Vamosa worked closely with the project team to implement a migration strategy. During the first phase of the project, Vamosa Content Analyzer reported on the content in the corporate Intranet, producing a master view that clearly showed the relationship and linkage.

Challenge: IBM needed to migrate and re-engineer up to 200,000 pages of Web content from the legacy Interwoven TeamSite system into Lotus Web Content Management, underpinned by IBM’s award winning Websphere Portal software Solution: Vamosa Content Analyzer (CA) was used for the discovery phase and Vamosa Content Migrator (CM) to enhance and standardize the content, reducing the pages by over 70% before migration, and to migrate the content. Results and benefits: IBM benefited from reduced and cleansed content to migrate into Lotus Web Content Management, but also a scalable and repeatable migration process. Furthermore, IBM had quick ROI by saving on maintenance costs by decommissioning the TeamSite system.
The company had a mandate to move both its corporate and divisional Intranet content out of the current CMS due to the high support and maintenance costs expected by 2010. The logical decision was taken to migrate to MOSS 2007 as many departments within the business were already using it.To ensure that MOSS 2007 was fit for the needs of its Intranet estate, and to deploy the correct migration strategy for the company, the corporate Intranet was selected as a pilot estate to validate both these parameters. Vamosa worked with the IT Team to implement content quality prior to migration. This was achieved through the analysis and cleansing of over 10,000 files, and the addition of new metadata standards and structure as a way of achieving Enterprise Content Governance.
